I listened to this album (Word of Mouth by Jaco Pastorius) fully expecting to hate it and quite the opposite happened...

I still haven't heard anyone with the combination of technique and melodic inventiveness that gets anywhere near Bruce Thomas.  He's rightly lauded amongst the bassist journos.

Not just the sessions - the live band he put together for Word of Mouth Tour was ridiculous. He had a bit of cash behind that effort.
