Just watched Tina Weymouth on Bass from BBC4 last night. Inevitably boss. Loved learning about Bernard Edwards’ unique playing style, Robbie Shakespeare playing Slave To The Rhythm on one string and Hooky ripping off Ennio Morricone for Blue Monday. Also, Bootsy laughing at James Brown appropriating everyone else’s ideas as his own and the old session dude who wrote the bass line on Walk On The Wildside clearly a little hurt that he never got a credit but far too nice to say so. Loads of great stuff here. Check it out.

I watched this last night, Paul, some of it was really good but I always thin they miss a trick with these programmes & it's starting to grate. They always dedicate a portion of it to punk (which didn't really have any musical innovations of its own) & generally almost completely miss out genres like jazz & prog.

Where were Paul Chambers, Charles Mingus, Chris Squire & Jaco Pastorius?

Anyway, Bootsy was great, James Jamerson, different planet & it was brilliant to see the boy playing that bassline to Everybody Dance by Chic.

Koja has probably been its finest exponent on the other side of the English Channel for the past 40-odd years, I'm sharing this also because Manja Đorđević, the singer in this video and in Disciplina's current line-up since Koja returned to Belgrade from London in the early 2000s has just died.

Top 10 basslines of all time according to the NME...

They clearly don't listen to much music because that is an appalling list.

Theres some catchy lines in there. But best of all time? Not one Motown track? No disco? No "The Chain"? Not even any fucking RHCP.

Cunt list.
