Bass guitar and it´s finest exponents

I love Matt Freeman. The self-taught punk bassist who learnt by playing along to motown, soul and dancehall reggae. Tim's great songwriter and Lars is a tight performer but Matt is the one who has made the band's sound stand out. Simple songs like Salvation and Roots Radical become so much more with his lines making the rhythm bounce.

Agreed - watch this guy - Marlowe - he's just too good. Some of his other stuff , particularly some his funk/soul stuff - Graham Central Station, George Duke, the Jacksons etc etc - is fantastic. I can listen to him all night. Have a look...

Brilliant.

Need to exemplify my choices now:

Michelle Ndegeocello (and yes she is on the other bus); the girl can play:

Thundercat (with his brother on drums) doing I Can't Help It by Michael Jackson; he's basically playing the vocal melody:

Flea with Chad; sick (A.W.S.I.O.):

Mark King off The Tube in the 80s (I remember watching this at the time; used to fucking love The Tube - what a great fucking concept: hours long live music show with just about all the coolest/biggest/best bands of the day on Channel 4 at tea time on a Friday!):

Larry Graham; just in case his show wasn't funky enough, he gets the funkiest fucker in the world on stage with him, too (check his bass, though):

And Bootsy Collins; mental, but great:

And finally, I know it's not a bass guitar, but you can't have a thread on great bass playing and not include Mingus:
