I'll drop this in here as I think Gervais is a symbol of this, the disabled are a section of society he can rip on without being branded discriminatory. The fake claimants have certainly changed perception of the disabled adversely too.

Saw him at Leeds Arena last night.

 

Apart from the dickhead in front talking to his mates all the way through the show, it was very clever and very funny.

 

He touched on all then most laughable groups - rape, paedo's, blacks, the holocaust, disabled, the homeless, homosexuals...

That was pure genius, everything since has been the same stuff with diminishing returns. I watched his most recent stand up thing on Netflix and just wanted him to shut the fuck up.

 

I'll give him Extras actually, that was decent.

Afterlife was quality but The Office was his biggest achievement, it's in my top 3 comedies of all time. All his other stuff is mediocre.

Found his early stand up stuff really shit and he seemed really uncomfortable in that setting.

To be honest I wasn't fussed on him until I saw Afterlife which I thought was excellent. He's always been funny, but never understood the sheer size of his appeal, presenting golden globes and whatnot.

Found the whole drug addict storyline, and the lack of consequences, really odd in the first season.

The Office was of course boss - I also thought Extras was very good. The supporting characters like his agent and "Barry" adding good comedy depth - i always find losers funny!

He’s created some top quality comedy, he’s obviously very talented. He also has some values that I support him on. 
 

I obviously don’t know him, but I can’t take to him as a person. There’s something about him I don’t like, not sure what it is.
