NBA Dream Team

I've been playing the new NBA2k12 and it's quality, but the Legends mode got me thinking about who would make up my all-time side. I'm very much of the NBA Jam era in terms of when I used to actually watch the sport (bar a bit of 2000 era Iverson-worship).

PG - John Stockton

SG - Kobi Bryant

PF - Charles Barkley

SF - Scottie Pippen

C - Shaquille O'Neal

Was very close to going for Ewing as centre.

Anyway, what's yours?

The worst thing is I actually caught my spelling error when posting and still somehow didn't correct it.

Jordan was the toughest call, but I've never really loved him as a player (or the Bulls in general). The man's an icon. But he's also an icon who left the sport twice on ridiculous ego trips. I only caught one season of his first stint and while he was great in his second stint too, it was always tarnished for me. Bryant was the rookie in a dominant side who grew beyond any of the players around him. 13 time all star, five time champion and at his peak averaging over 35 points a game. At shooting guard it's a Jordan/Bryant shout but they aren't worlds away in terms of quality.

Although I did love Space Jam...

Haha yeah space jam was ace.

Agree with you about Jordan, up to a point. For me, he's the greatest to have played the sport.

I went with

PG - Magic Johnson

SG - Michael Jordan

PF - Tim Duncan

SF - Larry Bird

C - Kareem

I might go for Dr. J over Bird if you asked me on a different day.

Magic- arguably the best PG ever, Kidd would have been my next choice, purely because I would never have forgiven myself for voting for Stocktons short purple shorts

Jordan- the best player ever, Kobe is a great player, but for 3 of his championships he wasn't even the best player on his team.

McHale- unplayable in the low post. Barkley would of been my next choice, purely based on the nickname the round mound of rebound.

Bird- purely because you can't have magic and not bird. Duncan is also a good shout

Shaq- Russell and chamberlain were ahead of their time, Moses was the next choice. But shaq was the prototypical bg man, and if he could shoot free throws it wouldn't even be close plus he broke more back boards than chocolate thunder

No Jordan. Wow. That's like an all-time football eleven without Messi, Maradona or Pele. He is the greatest of all time by a ridiculous margin.

Yeah, and I said why too, just chose on the basis of personal favourites. Like Johnson, Jordan's best days were before I watched the sport. Besides, my love of Puskas would probably mean I'd have to drop one of those three anyway...

Bit confused there mate.

If Jordans best days were before you watched the sport how can you include Magic?

I didn't, I've got Stockton at point guard. I was just using Magic as another example of a great player I didn't include.

Oh and repped for the other post.

Wow, really? The USA dominated basketball at the olympics? That must've been a bad day for the bookies.

So your choice is Johnson, Jordan, Malone, Barkley and Ewing then. Would you really say Malone is the best PF available? I mean, the mailman was great, but it's not like he had the defensive hustle and creative play of many in the era to go with the great timing and ability to rack up the points (which is why I put Barkley to PF and brought in Pippen).

Does anyone watch the NBA over here? When is it on (or will be on post-lockout), still Ch5 at like 4am? I may need to start recording round-ups and Lakers games again.

Stats are pretty similar considering Malone played 19 years to Barkleys 16

cant believe that rodman has only been mentioned once or twice

he might be a cross dressing freak, but he could hit 3 points constantly through the game, as well as be on top for defensive blocks time and time again

plus he's the only player to win back to back championships with two teams (pistons and bulls)

Magic

Jordan

Bird

Barkley

Shaq

Magic and Jordan are automatic picks for me. Bird was before my time but he was obviously a legend. Barkley probably isn't the best power forward ever, but I liked the way he played so he's in my team. He was awesome when he took the Suns to the finals. Tim Duncan is another one I thought of but I stopped watching the NBA when he was starting out in the league. The centre position was the hardest for me. Shaq was always a bit limited but he was just so big that he dominated. There weren't many other great centres around when I was watching, Ewing, Olajuwon and Robinson come to mind. Some of the other greats were way before my time.

Pippen would be my 6th man, he could come on in pretty much any position. And that dunk on Ewing is still the best I've ever seen!
