From Tony B in tommorow's Times - anyone see the kid? I know he's highly rated but thats about it

Liverpool are ready to go head-to-head with Manchester City in the race to sign Nathan Redmond, the 17-year-old winger who is regarded as the most outstanding prospect to emerge at Birmingham City for several years.

He made his debut at the age of 16 years and 173 days against Rochdale in the Carling Cup in August 2010, when he became the club’s second-youngest player, behind Trevor Francis. Redmond has been urged to remain at St Andrew’s by Chris Hughton, the Birmingham manager, but his willingness to stay looks set to be tested by growing interest from two of the biggest clubs in the Barclays Premier League.

Birmingham would look for a fee in the region of £12 million for the teenager, a price that neither Liverpool nor City are prepared to match for a player who has only ten league appearances to his name.

But Birmingham are aware of the growing rivalry between Liverpool and City to capture the country’s best available emerging talent and would hope to spark an auction for the England Under-18 player’s services in the event that his departure becomes inevitable.

City are still smarting after the Merseyside club beat them to the signature of Jordan Ibe, the 16-year-old forward, from Wycombe Wanderers, whom they had been tracking since his first-team debut last August, and will aim to flex their financial muscle in an attempt to ensure that Redmond does not evade them. But Liverpool will hope that their recent record of attracting a string of promising young players will give them the advantage.

Liverpool made an inquiry for Redmond last summer only to have their interest rebuffed, but they will reignite their attempts to sign him should they be given any indication that he could be allowed to leave

Certainly better than 'newhomo cinquento' which I actually did find quite funny, due to its almost cheerful shitness

Newhomo, is simple and funny. It suggests someone who has made a new life choice, and is looking forward to some fun times.

By the sounds of it we are ending up with Darren Bent. yay

Much more like, our very own Les Ferdinand but with more pace.

A lot of hats will be eaten by the naysayers of course but hes got what we need, hes even black s its win win. He should be able to work with the coaches on his nazi salutes and he will be able to call Evra niggar to his hearts content.

Beat that one Rommel/FA.

Am i the only one who thinks that there isnt much wrong with our team that a decent goal scorer wouldnt put right we dont need 3 4 or 5 players and we dont need to bring back players we have shiped out The problem as i see it is that the Board want to bring in cheaper young players who will get better on lower wages than you would have to pay for an established player in his prime

The only way Liverpool will bring in a big name striker is on loan were no fee is involved someone like Tevez maybe that is why the talk for Bent and Ex Real Madrid strikers are way off the mark as they dont fit the profile as they will be to costly

If you can see a young Striker who is scoring goals anywhere that isnt yet on massive wages then they will be on our list The problem for me is that scoring goals is the hardest thing on the pitch to do and that is why strikers cost so much a decision has to be made regarding Andy Carroll either we play to his strengths or we decide to off load and take a hit on his fee and add that money to whatever is available and go out and buy the best available. This is why Tevez is a perfect fit he would get regular football without losing a penny in wages playing for a top club putting himself in the shop window for 5 months with maybe an option to buy at the end of it if both parties agree to it. Even if he only stays the 6 months to June it would allow us to get into the Champions League and open up more possible signings to us and give us time to decide on Carroll's future in that time

As for talk about Roy Hodgson and Kenny what has that to do with anything Roy has moved on and so have we there is no connection between the two now

Joe Cole failed to take any of the chances he was given at Anfield while he was here what has happened to him is the best thing for all parties

Aqualani he was Italian and could move to another club by buying out his contract at Liverpool and basicly that is what he did so again that isnt relevent

We should be playing a young player from the ressies if we need a forward lets see what we have already got if they arnt up to the job when we are in such need then they never will be both Fowler and Owen where old enough and good enough
