Saw him on some programme yonks and yonks ago talking about Sam Cooke and he looked and sounded like the coolest man on the planet. I decided there and then to buy everything I saw of his name.

 

Saw him many many years later working with Damon Albarn just before his death and he still looked and sounded like the coolest man on the planet.

Saw Bobby at the California Ballroom in Dunstable circa 1975. He was barely heard of in this country then. Brilliant gig. He became one of the greatest ever.

Guessing it was 2013 when I saw him, he performed the last part of the show backstage as he was fucked.

California Ballroom sounds very upmarket.

It was a big dance hall. Sweat used to drip off the ceiling and walls on some gigs. All gone now, made way for the usual Barrett type development.
