I dont think Motown in later years reproduced the great sound of the 60s but thats a matter of opinion i suppose. 

I don't think they tried to, some of the albums they made between 1970 & 1975 will go down as the greatest of all time. Unfortunately there was a bit of a drop off in quality after that.

 

Interesting point though, disco kind of killed off the whole classic soul period.

Yeah they were totally different though there was some decent recordings in the years you mentioned, but pretty much spot on about after 1975 and Disco.

David Ruffin is absolutely unbelievable in that, turns up all suited up & blows the place apart.

 

His first 4 solo albums are very underrated IMO.

Finally watched it yesterday. Really enjoyed it David Ruffin was awesome as was Sly Stone.
