Liverpool owner John Henry taken to hospital after fall on his boat | Football | guardian.co.uk

The Liverpool owner John Henry has been taken to hospital after falling on his 164-foot boat in Boston.

Henry, who also owns the Boston Red Sox baseball team, was seen leaving the $32m (£25.5m) yacht wearing a neck brace and was treated by paramedics at the scene before being put on a stretcher and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in an ambulance.

"He walked down the gangplank and he pretty much walked on his own and he was then taken off on a stretcher," an eye witness told the Boston Herald.

Boston Red Sox president, Larry Lucchino, told the radio station WBZ-AM that Henry was injured but was able to walk off the boat wearing a neck brace.

The accident occurred less than 24 hours before Liverpool play Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield on Saturday and on the day Boston Red Sox announced the departure of Terry Francona, the manager who led the team to two World Series victories, after the team failed to make the play-offs.

Henry discharged from hospital | Evening Echo

Henry discharged from hospital

Liverpool owner John Henry has been discharged from hospital after suffering an injury on his yacht, it is understood.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030 said that the tycoon, who also owns the Boston Red Sox, left his private boat in a neck brace after a minor incident yesterday.

Reports suggest the 52-year-old was treated by paramedics at the scene before being put on a stretcher and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital by ambulance.

Massachusetts General Hospital confirmed the 52-year-old had been admitted to their emergency room last night, and he is understood to have now been discharged.

Reports of the incident surfaced less than 24 hours before Liverpool’s Merseyside derby clash with Everton at Goodison Park, and on the day the Red Sox parted company with double World Series-winning manager Terry Francona.

Henry became involved in Major League Baseball for the first time in 1991, purchasing a small ownership share in the New York Yankees.

The Illinois-born businessman bought the Florida Marlins for a reported $158m in 1999, selling the club three years later.

He then headed up the establishment of New England Sports Ventures (NESV), which purchased the Boston Red Sox for $700m later the same year.

World Series triumphs followed in 2004 and 2007 before Henry expanded his portfolio to include a 50% stake in the Roush Fenway Racing NASCAR team.

He made his move into English football last October, when Liverpool accepted a bid – believed to be £300m – from NESV.

After bringing in club legend Kenny Dalglish to replace Roy Hodgson as manager at the start of 2011, NESV supplied a transfer kitty for the Reds to strengthen their squad with big-money signings which included strike duo Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in January and Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson, Jose Enrique and Charlie Adam over the summer.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona just left the ballclub, after winning 2 World Series in 4 years following an 85 year drought. He failed to make the playoffs after an epic collapse, squandering a 7.5 game lead having an epic collapse on the last day of the season.

Ruthless son of a bitch, I like it Mr. Henry

It was a 9 game lead and Francona wanted to leave as much as Henry "might" have wanted him out. So you're talking poop there.
