Dalglish needs to learn some manners

Matt Hughes

Kenny Dalglish has been rightly credited with restoring the Liverpool way and reviving the Boot Room ethos since his return to Anfield, but some of his old school attitudes are less welcome. The Liverpool manager’s increasingly and condescending approach to the media does not become him or the great club who employ him.

Two examples spring readily to mind from the start of this season, and no doubt countless others could be provided by those who follow the club more closely. Following a magnificent away win at Arsenal last month Dalglish was asked by a respected newspaper reporter if he wanted Raul Meireles, who had made a major impact as a substitute, to stay at the club, to which he responded with a surprising level of disdain, “smell your fish and chips.” Little over a week later Meireles had been sold to Chelsea, demonstrating that Dalglish’s disregard for the reporter in question and the accuracy of newspapers in general was undeserved.

An even ruder and more unnecessary exchange followed yesterday’s 4-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur. Dalglish responded to an innocuous question from a Sky Sports reporter about whether Steven Gerrard would return from injury against Brighton in the Carling Cup this week with barely concealed contempt and the words, “I don’t know, I’m not a psychic.” That’s right Kenny, but you still probably have a better idea than Sky’s production team, Liverpool fans and the millions watching live on television.

Such smart-arsed put-downs have not been seen in the Premier League since Gordon Strachan, who had a habit of humiliating unsuspecting interviewers with what he probably regarded as a unique form of wit. Dalglish is undoubtedly a better manager than his fellow Scot, but at the moment is failing to demonstrate that he is a better man.

Where is the article questioning Ferguson's treatment of Kelly Dalglish then? And telling him to learn some manners? Oh, thats right, he doesn't want to be banned from future Man Yernited press conferences.

Is Matt Hughes one of the London-based media crowd by any chance? The pricks who drink in the Groucho and believe they are real writers rather than sports journos.

He needs to get his arse up north & start to understand a bit of humour & his place in the pecking order

We should have a nice Englishman in charge instead. Somebody who gives the press what they want and talks freely about the club to virtually no end. And who doesn't want to upset Mr Ferguson .

Someone who makes sure only to attack the foreign press...!

Funny how nine of our esteemed journalists see fit to point out what a git Hodgson can be to those who don't share his locus.

That's right Matt, Kenny should run things by you first.

Matt. Matty. Mattster.

Not to worry, I don't read any of your articles anyway, nor any of your peer's work either, because it's all really boring now.

No, I don't need to know if Johnson will be back in 3 weeks or not, I just don't need to know that, so stop fucking asking.

No, I don't want you to ask Kenny if Meireles is staying, that's not how this shit works Matt. We don't need to be kept in the loop Matt.

Don't go claiming to be fighting some noble cause, to shine light where there is darkness, in our name, in MY name. You cyber-cunt.

Dear Matt Hughes,

Thank you for making my life that much harder. It was tough enough trying to get blood out of a stone. You utter spunk-faced shitrocket.

Yours,

Vinny O'Connor.

Nine? Well, we've got our work cut out, haven't we?

Yes, it's a Blackadder quote

This is Matt. Judging by his face, Kenny is really getting to him. Chin up Matt.

He IS the Missing Link. Or has he just been freed from 10 years chained to a Middle-Eastern radiator?

That's all 4 "quality" British newspaper laying into Kenny in the space of 10 days. I see a pattern emerging.

As for this office can-lad, ignore him and hopefully he will return to the coffee run and leave the writing to those that have something worth reading.

Thats incredible stuff. Ferguson REFUSED to talk to the BBC for a decade and that was hardly fucking mentioned. Kenny gives them nothing as he knows they will try to make headlines out of fuck all to get more hits on their website. They can all fuck off.

    • Alisson   Trent Matip Fabinho Robertson   Henderson Thiago Wijnaldum   Salah Firmino Mane   Context:   We should NEVER be anything less than 100% up for beating these rats and we IMO can't do it without our best team - the team that on paper is our strongest and the most capable we can put out right now.   Trent probably does need standing down but for me he has to play himself into form and confidence and for a Scouser playing for Liverpool, away at Man Utd is up there as one of the best places can do it....plus Neco Williams or Milner at rb v these? Not for me.   Hendo has to play if fit if not then Jones or Milner.   Front 3 - Firmino really does not deserve a place at the moment, but don't trust other options available to replace him and so again get out there and prove you are a champion in a game that means so much to this football club and its supporters.
    • Klopp is an over-achiever, and seems happy to work that way. He knows the drill with FSG, I think. Dortmund was a similar situation - he worked brilliantly with sling shots against Bayern Munich's intercontinental ballistic missiles. It eventually, inevitably, unravelled because it is not sustainable. And he left - amicably wasn't it?   I see parallels here.
    • So you noticed that did you? Did you notice anything else?
    • I wasn't around in 1977 but winning that would have meant we'd have been the first English club to do the treble, and not those manc twats. The loss vs Real hurt the most, mainly because I was sure we'd win and we would have if not for those two cunts Ramos and Karius.
    • Obviously his whole language and attitude is different, we haven't scored a league goal for a month. I don't argue he might be pissed off. I just reckon he's probably been pissed off before, but the questions have been different, the context different and the overall vibe different. He was pretty clear in the interview to laugh and ask why anyone is surprised because this is how it's always been.    Ultimately the only people who know are klopp, Edwards and the board and owners. For me it feels no real different to before, it's just results are shit and our luck with injuries has highlighted the vulnerabilities in the squad. I've read countless times on this forum the fear many had around a long term injury to vvd, alisson, robbo, Trent, mane or salah. Well now we've got one. Do people think klopp didn't always realise this was a possibility? Of course and he'd have liked more squad depth. But he also knew from day 1 the rules and decided to work with them. That's how I see it. It's pretty much what he said yesterday.
