When are we likely to get definitive stadium news?

Wasnt the original plan to take the capacity to 60,000? This article in the Echo mentions 61,000 as the capacity once the ARE is done.

When they reapplied there was a slight increase in capacity but I’m not sure what the figure was.

That article talks about playing other sports there, Anfield is about 30m to short for a GAA game and 10m for American Football.

We had to extend the pitch right up to the edge of the ARE seating to stage any Euro 96 games because our pitch didnt meet the required size.

Although the PL likes pitches to be the same size, clearly older stadiums means this isnt the case. The club may take the opportunity to remove a couple of rows at the ARE front to allow for the pitch to be shifted that way and lengthened a bit. I dont know if that gives them an additional 10 metres for NFL or whether the end zones on an NFL pitch have to be the full regulation width?

It could potentially line up the tunnel with the halfway line more accurately but I’m sure I read that wasn’t in the original plans.

Maybe that’s been changed with the delayed planning application and slightly increased capacity?

What about if we extended it to meet the criteria for some European Cup finals?

I don’t think 61k is big enough for a European Final.

UEFA will, 15k per finalist isn’t enough IMO.

I was going to suggest an even bigger museum in one of the new stands but, even with more space, you'll still get ignorant twats in your grill while trying to look at old shirts and trophies.

Has anyone been to the museum since it reopened? I might nip over next week on a weekday to have a ganders at the PL trophy.

It can't happen soon enough, years too late. Really we need to look at the lower Kenny and the kop too as the leg room in those sections are a fucking disgrace, like they were set up for kids - I'm at a point where my kop seat is concerned, as I'm getting older I don't think my knees can do it anymore. While I never wanted to leave anfield, one of the plus points would have been some acceptable seating for those in those sections.

I don't think it's going to change. Selling the houses on Skerries rd making any future development virtually impossible has to be one of the worst decisions ever made by the club, although I don't think it was on FSG's watch.

I think this might be it for a while but in the next 10-20 years, I could see them trying to get capacity past 70k.

They didn't own all the houses on skerries rd though did they? I think you're right though, they can't go back there without that.

To be honest I think the club will be happy to stop at 60ish k. They want to ensure demand outstrips supply as that's one of the big things that allows them to get away with those fan paid hospitality gigs. They've been really successful in the main stand because they never get the corporate ST uptake they wanted. And while people can't get tickets, loads are willing to pay 350 quid a match to sit in there.

I went twice last year - once with my daughter and once with my Dad.

Pretty empty both times.
