Welcome to the new and improved TLW!

Some of you may experience issues logging in and will get an 'incorrect password' error. Don't worry, you haven't typed it in wrong and your password hasn't been changed. You will need to reset it though in order to log in. Click the reset password link and you will receive an email with your new temporary password. Once logged in, you need to choose a new password (or restore to your old one) otherwise you will be locked out again.

If you have an out of date email address linked to your account, then you won't receive the new password. If that's the case then you'll need to email me (dave @liverpoolway.co.uk) or send me a tweet @theliverpoolway and I'll update your password manually.

Any other problems or questions just let me know.

Thanks

Dave

We are the 4th highest selling football shirt in France. Weirdly there are only 4 French clubs in the top 10.

Two reasons:

1 - With PSG completely dominating the game in France, the rest must be wondering what's the point;

2 - French clubs have about 3 dozen sponsors on their shirts, which unsurprisingly makes them look shit.

Would have thought Arsenal and the Mancs would be in there.

Surprised we sell more than Barca or Real. Even loads of kids in Liverpool usually have one or both of those kits.

Liverpool are in talks with Nike over a new long-term kit deal upon the expiry of New Balance’s deal at the end of the 2019-20 season. Nike are currently leading the race to become the biggest ever agreement struck with a Premier League club. [ESPN]

I am finding these rumours of the kit deals really unlike Liverpool, we normally just get these deals and sponsorship deals done and sealed without the smallest bit of rumour. It's almost like we're working really hard to create a market.

The spurious "next year's kit" rumour mill seems strangely quiet this year.  Haven't we normally had half a dozen alleged leaks by now?

I felt that last summer, lots of kids with Liverpool tops. the CL final and Salah’ effect I reckon . And don’t forget Lfc is an inter generation club in France opposite to United or arsenal . It’s been supporters since the game vs StcEtienne , then Rush ( more than Dalglish weirdly ) the team of the late 80, Fowler and then Owen, Gerrard for many, Torres and Salah ...

Unlike you to praise their good business practices.

    • The money clubs? I thought they were richer than us?
    • That forum seems to be absolutely toxic. Many, MANY posts about how bitter we're going to be if we get 97 points and still finish second.   Which, I mean, it will sting a bit but honestly I'd tip my hat to them and say "well done." If they get 98 points they deserve to win the league; a shame we couldn't do better but whatever we end up with this has been the best Liverpool side since I started supporting and I'm really looking forward to the next few years.
    • Yup.   I talk about this all the time but we fans speak about players' fees, but clubs look at the total cost/season. So if you want to look at it from a buying club's point of view, wages will play a huge factor in the fee you're willing to pay.   Our most expensive player in terms of total cost (fee amortisation + wages) is Virgil, who costs us just under 23m/season. You'd imagine that a midfielder like Pogba, if you think you can get him back to his best, peak age midfielder, the most anyone's going to pay is maybe 30m/season, total.   I think he's on 300k/week, no? And he's asking for even more? So that is 15m/season, probably 18m/season or more by the time you pay his agent and give him a pay rise to move to Madrid. That leaves you 12m/season on his fee. So if you think he'll be really good for 5 years you give him a 5-year deal, meaning the fee can't be over 60m.   They're going to lose a LOT of money on some of those players. It's possible they'll put out a figure of 90m for the papers and then give him and his agent 30m so that they sign a lower-wage deal, but it won't matter. They won't get more than 60m for him that they get to keep. And that's just Pogba, some of the others they've got to sell would be much worse. I shudder to think how much money they'd have to pay Sanchez just to go away this summer.
    • I did read it and I get your point totally.   It’s just if you told me now that we could have Klopp for 25 years and he would win what Ferguson did then I wouldn’t see those raised expectations post Klopp as a problem. It’s the making terrible football decisions that I see as the main problem (actually, it’s not a problem, i fucking love it happening to them) but agree the expectations are a handicap for any manager they bring in now until they win a couple of big trophies.   Anyway, I’m borderline giving them credit for the Ferguson era and I’m not comfortable with that so fuck them! Hope they get the point Wednesday then never get a point again the gang of shit houses. Solskjaer is miles out his depth
