The most important thing for me is the fact that he's really comfortable on the ball (same as Aurelio). He's got good pace and dribbling ability (at least for a full back) and passes the ball pretty well. All these qualities make him perfect for our back four, it makes it so much easier to keep the ball in our side when a couple of the defenders know how to use it and keep it.

The downside is that he'll be a bit too adventurous in his own half for the more nervous of our supporters, and he'll no doubt make a mistake or two that lead to goals against by doing so. I think the upsides are far bigger though (just as with Agger). Let's hope he keeps fit and the deal goes through! Will hopefully make a really effective partnership with Downing.

agree with this.

As you say, some of our more 'nervous supporters' will no doubt be happy to convey their misgivings and groans to the player from the stands the first time he gets caught going forward wrecking his confidence nice and early.

If he is signed he needs to be given some leeway as does the whole squad. Expectations are higher but new additions, new manager, new background staff there are bound to be a few problems to iron out to start with.

We've got something great going now so let's drown out the eternal pessimists and the knee jerkers and 'give it loads' from day one

We need this signing to come off. He's far better than any option we have at left-back. Very comfortable with the ball and would provide good width along with Downing on our left flank.

If he is to come I just hope its for a sensible fee. Knowing the geordies, they realise they fleeced us once before and will try again.
