Are there are any covers that piss from a great height over the originals? What do you all think? I'll start with these (no idea how to post the videos, sorry):

Gary Jules: Mad World.

This Mortal Coil: Song To The Siren.

Jeff Buckley: Hallelujah.

Ciccone Youth: Into The Groove(y)

Revoltng Cocks: Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?

New Seekers: Anthem (One Day In Every Week).

Any more???

Only recently heard that Get Into The Groove. Isn't it Sonic Youth? Bizarre but great.

Though I do like Dylan's, I have to concede this is better. It makes me want to drive up the M1 in a battered Jag swigging from a bottle of gin.

Hendrix version of like a rolling stone stands up to Dylans aswell, not suprising as Jimi thought he was excellent.

Having recently discovered The Czars, I am currently a big fan of this Abba cover:

They also do a cover of Song To The Siren which I think is better than This Mortal Coil's, but I don't think either is better than Tim Buckley's (acoustic) version.

Nothing pisses from a great height on Cohen.

Yeah, "Piss from a great height over" is putting it a little strong for many of these shouts I think. If we're talking songs which were pretty average/rubbish originals but made excellent covers then

, a plodding sax-based effort by The Only Ones, somehow became a real thing of beauty:
