Over reaction come on people it might be they just don't want to risk him lets not write one of the greatest ever players just off yet.

It's common sense, not an over reaction. He's 31 and recovering from a major injury. It really is the beginning of the end. That doesn't mean he's finished, just that he's passed his peak now. He'll still have superb performances and be influential, just not at the same frequency of previous years.

Gerrard undergoes 'successful' groin operation

Published 13:42 09/04/11 By MirrorFootball

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has undergone surgery on the groin injury that has curtailed his season.

It was confirmed yesterday that the midfielder would not play again this term after suffering a setback in his recovery from the problem that has kept him out since early March, and tests revealed that the 30-year-old required an operation.

The procedure has been declared a success and Liverpool expect their talismanic leader to be available for pre-season training.

A statement on the Liverpool website read: "Liverpool FC today confirmed that Steven Gerrard has undergone successful surgery on his groin.

"The decision was taken after consultation with leading specialists.

"The player will now begin a rehabilitation programme and is expected to return for pre-season training."

He's definitely behind schedule if that's anything to go by.

I went on the official site yesterday and they have an interview with Gerrard on there.

I presume it is from his golf tournament?!

He says in that interview that he is four or five weeks away from a game.

The tournament was last month though mate, and he hasn't even started training yet.

I'm not sure when the interview took place or if that was even from the golf tournament.

I have just watched the video.

But he was seen doing individual training on the first day of pre season.

I thought Dalglish, prior to the Asian trip, said that Gerrard and Reina would both be ready for the start of the season. I'll wait and see.

Yep he said that in the first press conference in Asia.

I was told a couple of weeks ago by mates of mine who know a squad member that Stevie is 'fucked'. The injury is a lot worse than has been made out and the club will be lucky to get 20odd games out of him for the next couple of seasons. I thought nothing of it because Stevie's comments a few weeks back all sounded positive, but maybe there is something in it. It may turn out to be crap, hope so like, but just thought I'd share it all the same.

I heard exactly the same thing mate. Again, I heard from a friend who knows someone at the club. I took it with a pinch of salt at the time, as I heard it only a week or two after Gerrard had had his op, so thought it would be far too soon to tell.

The longer it's going on then it seems to be coming true.

Without getting games in preseason, he would be unlikely to start the season anyway especially seeing as he has had so long out. He'll be treated very carefully.

However, at least thanks to our summer's recruitment drive, midfield is one area we aren't struggling!

Fucking hell, he’s fucked his groin not snapped both his legs in 7 places. He might take a bit longer than expected, but I’d rather have a 100% Gerrard than the 70-80% Gerrard that we usually get rushed back from injury!

I really hope its crap mate, maybe it is. I know that my mates know this player's family and friends though so it is a bit worrying because I've heard plenty off them in the past. I'm sure in a few weeks he'll be fine and banging them in again, and this thread will be laughed it...I hope.

Maybe Kenny is just taking his time with it, God knows we've struggled in the past with players getting rushed back because we've relied on them. Maybe now for the first time in a long time Kenny realises the team can perform without him.

I think we're strong enough to start without him until september/october to wait until he's completely fully fit.

Maybe, just maybe the plan could be to use Suarez all game every game until Gerrard gets back and then when he does; start giving Suarez the odd rest here and there.

Of course this could all be one big ploy by Kenny to get one more marquee signing off of FSG haha.

If he isn't fit, I hope he isn't rushed back.

I think he has probably come to this stage by being too willing to play with jabs etc. & you could argue short-termism from managers who have used him when semi-fit.

I think it should be very straightforward, if you aren't fit you don't play.

I couldn't believe our 'world-class' medical team let him play in the Utd game last season, and don't start me about Carroll being left on against Arsenal.
