I'll start and end with the best one on there.   Fawlty towers.

I don't see why not. It'd be different, sure, but then it's a period piece reflecting the attitudes of the time- an episode like The Germans wouldn't really make sense nowadays unless Fawlty was in his 90s with direct experience of the war and its aftermath.

There was a great piece in the Grauniad this week on life imitating art withFawlty Towers and Brexit.  Better than it sounds - have a butchers

This one?

Yes, very good article. Flicking down to the comments, this is a particularly good one-

When Fawlty Towers was made, Britain was in its first decade of EEC membership and only 30 years since the end of the Second World War.

The optimism of the time was that the European Experiment would prevent future conflicts and extremism, then quite recent in people’s memory... ...you could argue that that has largely proved true and would continue to do so.

The sceptics at the time we’re muttering about the diminution of commonwealth and our status as a world power, loss of identity and having our world dictated by the Germans and/ or worse still, the French.

Our world power status, punching above our 60 million populated weight, has been maintained with our permanent seat on the UN Security Council, a shared leadership position in the large block that is the EU, our special relationship with the US... even our role as the bastion of the business and administrative language of choice for about a fifth of the world’s population.

This was more successful as a member of the EU... and the EU was more successful with us in it.

It is still staggering to me that all the realized virtue of the EU relationship, 40 years on from Fawlty, is being traded for a bag of what BoJo, Farage, Putin and Trump are selling us as “Magic Beans”.

Fawlty was deliberate comedy. The fatally flawed and ultimately sterile Magic Beans are a tragedy we should never choose.

Men Behaving Badly hasn't aged well.

And Early Doors is good but there's no no way it's better than The Royle Family.

Early Doors was like Fawlty Towers in that it made only a small amount of episodes where all were good quality. The Royle Family made loads but not all were as good as each other. Both were excellent though and I enjoyed the quirkiness of Early Doors more.

I watched the first scene of that Fleabag thing and thought it was utter wank. I immediately took a dislike to that posh tart and couldn't stand her for a second longer. Bring back Dad's Army.

I agree with this, minus the last sentence.

Brass, stands out thats not on the list, however, Soap, Newheart, Fraser, Cheers, Taxi, MASH and Married with Children, to name but a few, are all on my great tv show list, sadly, somewhere in and around  84', the yanks just got better at it.

I hope, Operation Good Guys gets a mention somewhere along the way.
