Raheem Sterling

We sold him for 50m when he was a talented kid.

By comparison, Suarez was arguably the best player in the world when we sold him for 65m a year earlier.

The Sterling deal was a much better piece of business.

I still look back on the Suarez deal, and feel a lot shittier about that than Sterling.

Suarez wanted to go to Arsenal. He was a mercenary who buttered up supporters with sweet nothings while at the same time doing everything he could to leave to any situation that was better than LFC at the time. He would've gone no matter what.

Had we given Sterling the new contract he deserved and wanted, by the way, we could've eventually gotten at least double the 50m or his price could've scared City away and we could've kept him. It was a huge miscalculation by the club. When you look at the context, the Sterling deal was way worse than the Suarez one.

It's true. Sterling was a worse deal. He said himself he had no issue signing a new deal in the summer of 13/14. Rodgers instead kept pushing this "young players are mollycoddled, and need to work for everything they get" nonsense and had him on £30,000 a week when he was our star player and playing 50 games a season.

Fair enough.

Perhaps it was a worse deal.

But losing Suarez personally pissed me off more than losing Sterling, and I don't feel any differently now.

I thought Sterling was a bit of a greedy shite at the time, but I've since realised that singling anyone out for greediness in football today is a bit hypocritical - and so I don't begrudge the boy the success he's having.

And needless to say, if it came down to would I side with Rodgers or Sterling, it's a no contest.

I think by the end of the season he'd done enough to earn the pay-rise, but things had gotten so bad he was on his way already.  City clearly had him tapped up from the start and his agent's a cunt (the unsanctioned BBC interview shortly after the club had given him a mid-season break still irritates me in particular), but can't really resent his success at this point - he's been excellent this season.  Not the side around him (like previous seasons), him.  Used to say it was a failing of English players that they move to sides where the rest of the team win things for them.  That's not the case for him anymore.

Never felt too bitter watching him play for England though, I usually just think of when he first joined.  15 year old thrown straight into the mini-derby and bossing it.  The whole thing's a shame to be honest, definitely the shiteness of modern football.

Not that arsed either way about Sterling as a footballer when we're not playing them  - we got good money for him and we've generally been far better up front since he left.

He deserves great credit for calling out the media on their divisive, racist agenda a few months back.

Nowhere near the quality of Salah and Mane.    He should try playing in a side whose midfield never gives him the ball in dangerous areas.

Will probably get player of the year due to all the unfounded crying about racism.

Can you imagine the amount of goals Salah and Mane would get with City's midfield?

Aguero is a better player than Firmino but, as good as Sterling and Sane (or Mahrez) are they aren't as good as Salah and Mane.

Yup,  and you've got our three needing to play every minute of every important game with no back up.

He's no doubt improved but gauging his ability against teams barely a level above English non players is not a good indicator. I saw most of those two England games, because I had nothing better to do,and their opponents were shocking. England were miles better without even breaking a sweat and they were practice games to the likes of Sterling.

International football is a joke. England rarely lose matches in the qualifiers as the opposition is generally cannon fodder to the established international teams. Sterling is a decent player but England have had plenty of those over the years and still do fuck all when it really counts. On a worldwide stage compared to the players other countries have in their teams, Sterling is bang average.

There’s more to it than that. Luis Suarez was virtually flogged out of English football.

After the Evra case and that miscarriage of justice Luis stayed several seasons with us until there was no other option than leaving. I mean, when the person responsible for the economy of the PL publically says about the man providing more publicity to the PL than any other: “Premier league is better off without Luis Suarez”, the writing’s on the wall.

The Arsenal transfer? Maybe you do believe all you read in the tabloid press. I don't and I didn't hear him say once he wanted that move. In my book he let hjs feet do the talking by giving us the 13-14 season.

Gerrard is on record more than once saying he told Suarez to forget about Arsenal because he was better than that and would get his move to Spain if he gave it another year. Pretty sure Suarez himself has thanked Gerrard for the advice to.

He defo wanted that move.

As for Sterling. I don't miss him at all, I wouldn't want him back and don't think he's as good as Salah or Mané.

He's a very good player who has mastered the art of arriving in the six yard box at the perfect time to get on the end of those low crosses City specialise in. At least 50% of his goals come that way. He wouldn't score them for anyone else because no-one else provides that service like City do.

If I could have any of City's forwards I'm taking Leroy Sane all day, every day. Brilliant player.

OK, I guess my opinions towards Luis iare a bit biased. He’s probably the closest I’ve been to manly love ever. If he wanted the Arsenal transfer at least he didn’t let it show on the pitch
