Ooh good question, enough to bring me off Twitter for once.

Barnes is an ace call - particularly noting the lack of proper replacement for almost 20 years!!

Would also love McManaman or Fowler in his pomp

Special Mention to Rob Jones too.

Shout.

Tough one. I think I'd have to say John Barnes in our current state. Would like Alonso most, I think.

Souness is a great shout as is Barnes from 87-90.

Kenny was the obvious choice so I'm going to pick a 25 year old Steven Gerrard.

Barnes in the context of what we need now, and have needed since he retired, a winger. All things being equal though it'd be a vintage blond-haired Robbie Fowler.

The sound of my youth was Radio City's half time report, which ALWAYS went "Liverpool went ahead/equalized/pulled one back, Robbie Fowler on 'insert minutes here'"

Hmm, basically a left winger. Barnes, McManaman (I know, not strictly a left winger, but he was my idol as a kid) or Heighway (from what I've seen he had great delivery and would bring out Carroll's inner Tosh).

Otherwise Souness is a great shout. Otherwise Emlyn as he'd add quality and depth to a few positions.

John Barnes for me as well.

Immediately thought of Souness too, we lack that bit of fire/toughness and leadership in the middle.

Alan Hansen/Mark Lawrenson wouldn't hurt either, I actually think we would need Lawrenson more than Hansen even if I think Hansen was the better player.

Alonso from recent years.

Dalglish, Fowler, Mcmanaman would be the next on my list.

Of course, being 25 and having gone this far with my removed impressions of legends I should probably say that the thought of a Liddell-Carroll-Suarez triumvirate is also appealing.

That's what made me start the thread. Watched the interview tonight and was thinking about how much I'd love to have him back, which got me thinking who would I rather see back more than anyone. I excluded Kenny as he'll be non-player-manager so it just had to be Barnes. Hansen is a great shout though. He'd soon pull Skrtel into shape, as would Emlyn. Hughes would be class to see play with Suarez and Lucas. Smile central.

Barnes instantly sprung to mind, but couldn't Liddell play either wing? If so I'd go for him, both of them would be even better with modern diets, fitness, training etc, can't believe there are so many shouts for Rob Jones, we have 2 RB's and he was hardly one of the best players to ever wear the shirt.
