Jammy get. Amazing city

It's under quite the lockdown, so I don't think I'll be getting too much in.  I'm only working on the Thursday though so will have Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday to try and see what I can.

I'm off to Chicago in the morning and am staying at the Hyatt Regency which is next to Trump tower.   It'll be interesting to see and hear what it's like during their big convention

I loved Chicago. The Shedd Aquarium and the observatory next door are brilliant.

Navy Pier is superb. Goes onto Lake Michigan, loads to do and great city views.  Home Alone house is a 30 minute train and 5 minute walk in a stunning town called Winetka. For 2 hours out your day it’s well worth it. If you like Home Alone that is.

We jumped a train up to Milwaukee for a little wander around. Visited a nice little brewery and had an uber driver who boxed with Lennox Lewis but was the victim of reverse racism before leaving to break into Hollywood (I assume he meant as some sort of action star, not a burglar), before espousing his love of Trump and his denial of there being any scamdemic. Everyone else we met seemed quite normal, though. Nice town, just goes to show we have dickheads everywhere.

if you like a bit of craft beer and want to see the wrigley stadium at the same time - if you head over towards the stadium, there's a bunch of micro brewhouses. Koval, Begyle, Dovetail and another i am struggling to remember, but they will help you out in one of the others - they are all within walking distance. My favourite food place, a BBQ special is Green Street Meats. That's a good area to have a bev in too and Guinness have recently opened a brewery tap in that neighbourhood. that's a bit closer to where the convention is though, as i think that's at the united centre, so i guess it'll be crazy busy around there. Wrigleyville though will be sound.

We went the United Center for both a basketball game (Bulls beat Celtics) and an ice hockey game. The ice hockey was ace and we went back a couple of nights later for "latino night". The city reminded me of Liverpool in terms of atmosphere. I really want to go back now,

I love it there. Despite going tons of times on business, I've done half a dozen lads trips there over the years. I did think after my last trip, which was a 5 day lads weekend followed by a week of work last September, I was done with it and had taken all Chicago has to offer. But I feel ready to go back now.

I think Chicago is one of Liverpools twin cities? The waterfront was styled on Chicago if I remember correctly

Shanghai that isn't it?

Chicago looks like Bootle town centre.

I don't think we're twinned with Chicago. I thought New Orleans was the US city we were twinned with. I think Rio, Shanghai, Dublin and cologne are others.

Having been to Chicago, I can't imagine how our waterfront was based on there. I don't know much of their architecture prior to the great Chicago fire, which decimated the waterfront where the museum and soldier field etc all is now, but it would seem pretty unlikely. New York is the most similar architecture I've seen while being in the US and Liverpool is often used as a substitute for filming NY (or even Gotham!) in films.

Its one of the twins I thought, Odessa is one as well.

The bits of Chicago I saw would have been like the better end of Bootle......Merton road for example ....

I’ve been 3 times before so have been able to do a decent amount of touristy stuff. But the city is genuinely under a significant lockdown with the DNC on all week so loads of stuff is closed off or just inaccessible, so I won’t be doing much.

The Royal Liver Building is based on a Chicago-style skyscraper.  The Port of Liverpool building is based on a rejected design for the Anglican Cathedral, and the Cunard Building is based on an Italian Renaissance palace.
