I am starting a new thread for this because the big ' Cameron ' thread on forum runner won't load.

Obviously for general discussion, but I was wondering what is the likely outcome in your area? Anyone live in a Lib dem or Tory area? If so, what do you think will happen where you live?

I think Labour will make big gains. They picked up five seats lats May and seized two Tory strongholds, but these were their first gains in eight years (it dominates the council) as it managed to mobilise its supporters who - in the past - were probably complacent and didn't bother at all. I think the same will happen this time, I reckon they will pick up maybe five-10 seats, mostly Lib Dem, and will probably pip at least one of the two independents (both former Lib Dem) to a seat.

Not expecting much change in Wirral, should remain no overall control and a Tory-LD run administration.

After last year's trend-bucking gains in Liverpool, Labour should gain a fair few more seats as the city's navel-gazing gathers apace.

Labour should do well nationally because the seats up this year are councillors elected in 2007, which was not a good year for them, they lost 500 councillors and control of 8 councils. I think I'm right in saying it was their worst local election results in the whole of their government.

Not sure of the figures but your point is correct.

Nationally there should be a big gain for Labour.

Local politics here is spectacularly bland, Labour dominates and its exec board is more of a politburo, sweeping through policy with no opposition. The Lib Dems were traditionally the second biggest party but have always seemed to be amazingly timid because of the personalities involved, even when they had some major issues here to go at the always held back and just shook their heads disaprovingly. UKIP and BNP are nowhere to be seen, and there are about six Tories left, the bulk of them being very, very old.

That's not the only reason they're going to do well, to be honest.

Bump.

We've just had a depressingly shit leaflet from our Labour candidate.

Where we are one of the three Council seats is up for grabs. The two sitting councillors are a Joe-defending Labour member and Steve Radford of the Liberal (not Lib-Dem) Party. Steve carries a lot of respect around here (even with someone like me, who often argues with him on points of policy) because he is a really good and hard-working local ward councillor.

Our Labour candidate has just posted a leaflet saying very little except that he will work with Steve Radford. In fact Steve's name is more prominent than his own.

The obvious logical conclusion from a leaflet like this is that if you want a candidate who will work with the Liberal councillor then vote for the Liberal candidate.

I feel a spoiled ballot coming on.

I'm standing for the greens in knowsley, only as a paper candidate to test the water so no campaigning this time. Expecting a shellacking but if i get a decent amount of votes could go all out next time.

Good for you. Brave to mention it on here though, you run the risk of some clown using your vote share to have a go at you.

We've got a paper candidate for the Greens here, too.  Liverpool Greens seem to only exist in a tiny enclave, in the St Michael's/Lark Lane area.  They never seem to make much attempt to break out from there; which is a shame, because it sort of reinforces the (false) stereotype that Green politics is only for the artsy/hippy middle classes.

Think a lot of people are saying the same, a vote for Labour at this election is a vote for Joe Anderson and his administration. I can see a lot of people staying at home this time, not that it'll make a huge amount of difference.

We don’t have a Socialist candidate and I'm loath to vote for the paper candidate from the Green Party (because, hàving lived in leafy St Michael's and in shitty Tuebrook, I can confirm that it's hard for someone from the former to understand the needs of the latter).

For the first time since the PCC election, I'm considering spoiling my ballot.
