Just found out my uncle, the man who got me supporting the club instead of that other shower, has died of this cunting disease.

82, he had a good innings but still short of what he might have gone onto if it wasnt for this.

In some ways, I think I was the son he never had since he had 3 daughters and loved cricket and footie.

RIP Ron. YNWA

Jesus mate that's awful. Thoughts with you pal x

Just got back and in view of what has gone before had the best results I could have hoped for. Cancer is confined to the prostate so no spread. I still have a month to look forward to of going to Mount Virgil in Rickmansworth for radio therapy, dates to be confirmed. Preliminary scan on 5th July, so they are moving pretty quick.

From here to Rickmansworth includes about 20% round the M25 so it's a balls ache. However, compared to what some of you lot on here (and your loved ones) have gone through I've got off lightly.

All the best to all of you who are involved with having to put up with this bastard condition.

That's lousy news mate, feeling for you and your family. No one deserves to be taken by this shit disease at any age.

That sounds very good news.

I wish you the very best of luck and I'm looking forward to your post saying you're cancer free in the near future.

Now stop griping about the travelling and kick it's fucking arse!

This is great news mate, onwards and upwards. One day you'll be looking back at this and it'll be in the past.

Look after yourself mate and take all the rest you need. It's all about getting through these steps and then hopefully get back to life as normal.

I've just seen that Deborah James has just died. She had a similar prognosis as I did, but i somehow jammed survival. All I know about her is what I've read and the odd bits on BBC news & breakfast, but I feel genuinely emotional about seeing the news. Her ability to talk about her disease and help and inspire others is quite something else. Gutted. Which feels very weird for someone I don't know.

You have to take a moment to realise exactly what she did.

By telling her story and letting people in to share her experiences of this awful and very personal cancer in the way she did, with humour and positivity has done so much to raise awareness and will undoubtedly save lives as a result.

A remarkable and very brave young woman.

May she rest in peace.

Absolutely mate. It's incredible to think where she got the idea from even to be able to do it. From my own experience you get very consumed with what is happening and it's really hard to think beyond your next treatment or how you're going to get to work next.

A mate of mine's niece has just been diagnosed with brain cancer. She's four years old. And all the while the religious types will tell you that god, in his infinite wisdom, has a reason, and all that nonsense.

It breaks my heart when I hear of little ones suffering. It's just plain wrong.

I hope they can do something for her.

Her friends husbands nephew passed away from brain c*ncer last night in Tel Aviv. 7 years old. He was given until last November to live but he fought on much longer. They had specialists from Germany working with him but alas to no avail. Tragic. A truly awful disease.

When you have kids or Grandkids that age it really hits home.

Tragic and heartbreaking.

It’s awful reading about these things.

Interesting hearing about them going to Germany for treatment. A work colleague who also had a brain tumour went there for treatment too. He died too

Been all the way to bloody Rickmansworth today for a preliminary scan. The four weeks thing starts the 19th. Despite them being told I have a have a pin in my leg from when I broke my hip they managed to fuck it up. I now have to go back there tomorrow. Fucking hours drive each way. I was so close to telling them to shove the whole thing.

Mate, the lack of attention to detail throughout your care will be constant. It's terrible to say, but you need to be the person in charge of your health and every single time you speak to someone, tell them everything. It's the only way. Fuck knows how people who aren't clear in the head deal with them.

I will mate. Just seriously pissed off and came back to a stack of work. Thing is, I had told them everything on Thursday when they phoned and they still managed to balls it up.
