The league should be cut to 18 teams. The quality at the bottom is woeful.

Or maybe 16. It would get rid of the worst dross and have the benefit of reducing the fixture list by 8 matches a season. Unless of course UEFA and/or FIFA decide to invent more meaningless competitions. The cunts would probably have each team playing the other 15 three times. Home, away and at a neutral ground (is the States)

Disclaimer - I date back to the days when the League, the FA Cup and the European Cup (when it really was for Champions) were the ones that mattered. The League Cup, Cup winners cup and the UEFA cup were consolation prizes. 24 teams in the league and rarely teams as dire as the crap down the bottom these days courtesy of the wealth and hence talent up at the sharp end.

Tried watching that game on Saturday and it was awful.  I know Newcastle were without a striker but they just have no idea how to play and can barely string a couple of passes together. Think they had about 12 corners and the majority of them didn't clear the first defender. They've spent quite a lot of money to look fairly average.

Everton are fucking woeful, mainly because their manager is so negative. Calvert-Lewin is a far worse diver than Salah is supposed to be. At least Salah stays on his feet most of the time and is fouled by players a lot bigger than him. Calvert-Lewin just looks to throw himself on the floor the minute anyone is near him and he's far bigger than Salah. It really is embarrassing the way he falls over, especially in the penalty area.

Whoops. Shirts, I meant shirts not shorts.

Can I blame Autocorrect? Again. And slack proof reading - although it's an interesting scientific phenomenon that sometimes your eyes see what your brain wants them to. I've read it on the internet.

i completely disagree with this. part of the reason the teams at the bottom are shit though, is because they normally do not have the resources of those above them. All reducing the league to 16 or 18 teams will accomplish is losing 2 or 4 good teams over time, because the sides who come up and down (and relegation will still be a thing) will lack the same resources as the current bad teams and will become shit. The SPL has 12 teams in it, but their bottom team only has 2 points. I get the idea of reducing the number of games is healthy for the players. But for the health of the clubs, the more teams we have in the PL (and by consequence, more games to sell to TV), the healthier the clubs are, Forest are shite in our league and would probably do really well in the conference or europa league. for example in 22./23, west ham were in a relegation battle for most of that season, finished with just 40 points. But were still good enough to win the europa league.

if we want less disparity between the teams at the top of our leagues and the bottom, reducing the number of teams is not the answer, a more equitable share of money is. but of course, this would mean our teams competing in europe would perhaps be less strong than they are now, because they would have less money to compete. So instead of 3 of the 5 favourites in the CL being english clubs (out of just 4 compared to 5 of other nations),  our 2 clubs in the europa being the top 2 favourites and our one team in the conference being favourites, we might have to settle for being further away from the top of the european game.

our league is massively strong, but no matter how strong it is, there will always be that seasons fodder. if we want to reduce the clubs, we should be doing it because we want to protect the players, or as more likely desire from the clubs owners, play more international competition.

Unlikely to happen but Everton play Newcastle on the last day of the season. Imagine if they need to win to stay up and Anthony Gordon scores against them to send them down as some type of Karma for all the abuse they've given him?.

More likely though he will join James Maddison as someone who let them.stay up because he bottled a penalty.

Over on the 90’s board of madness, one of them has “analysed” the stats of our games to their’s, with a view to highlighting how unfairly they’re treated by officials, concluding this;

Shite have committed 83 fouls and received 13 cards
Everton have committed 78 fouls and received 12 cards

Unless I’m missing something, doesn’t that disprove it?

Discounting that they’ve ignored the fact that we’re fouled in more dangerous areas given we have the ball a lot more, than most opposition.

Full amusing, self-victimisation thread here;

all it proves is we’re just as bad as each other in that regard.  There must be thousands of posts on here about how unfairly we get treated.
