I was a bit nervous about Siggurdsson and Digne and their (supposed) quality from corners and free-kicks.  Turns out I needn't have worried: they were gash.

I said after the league derby, that sigurdson looks like one of those ex pros from the legends games being asked to come back after 20 years and play real football. You can see once there was footballer, but that is way gone. And he's only 30.

Why do loads of them think Everton have never been relegated? Thought they know their history.

Probably because they had that sign of 100 years of top flight football on the Park End.

Pity they dont tell anyone it's a combined total.

He's actually a brilliant example of the difference in player selection between Rodgers and Klopp.  Rodgers wanted to sign him, but blew him out when he wanted too much money.  "More than what he's worth" was Rodgers's own quote.

Klopp said early on that he wanted players who would "push the bus".  He was talking about players who would push themselves out of their comfort zone in difficult situations and rise to the challenge, players who could help turn bad situations round.  Sigurdsson is a luxury player, easy on the eye when his team is well on top.  He went to Spurs and did fuck all, crawled back to Swansea in the end.  He's a talented player, but he clearly disappears when the going gets tough and he doesn't have that battling winner's mentality for sure.  An absolute natural for the current Everton shambles then.

I got the impression at times that player mentality played a small part in Rodgers's selection process (don't even mention fucking Balotelli).  With Klopp it's every bit as important as the skillset with the ball.  If you can't raise your game when the going gets tough then you won't be playing for Klopp's Liverpool.

According to the Echo Ancelotti wants to get shut of Sigurdsson.

Be interesting to see how big a hit they have to take on him, if he's actually willing to give up his big contract  and move elsewhere on probably half the wages he's on now.

Any wonder the fans are so delusional and primed to forecast world domination when their own players [DCL] comes up with this shit?

Even more shit about how confident he was going to Anfield. Oh yeah? How did that go you twat? Ave it!

I love the juxtaposition of the strikers Ancelotti has managed in the past with the kind of garbage he has to work with now.

I don't think their fans will be happy until they go back to their mid-90s "dogs of war" ethos. It's the only time they ever had an edge over us on the pitch, and that is all that matters to them. It's why they hold Big Dunc in such high regard because he epitomised that ethos in the derbies back then. They simply choose to ignore that he was never prolific, never consistent, almost never fit and that he went for the money the moment another club offered him more.

    • Whatever the rights and wrongs of players salaries are it's a bit fucking rich of Hancock to be whining about it when his fucking party has been slashing the NHS budget at every opportunity for years
    • Liverpool have earmarked a couple of exciting talents from the Bundesliga as Jürgen Klopp looks to boost his all-round squad depth.

The Daily Express (via German publication Express) says that Denis Zakaria and Marcus Thurum are two players that have come to prominence this season with the duo being key figures in the fine season of Borussia Monchengladbach as they currently sit in fourth position.

Zakaria is a Swiss international who plays in the Defensive Midfield role.

Standing at 190cm and coming in at around 80kg, Zakaria is a physical specimen and his strengths lie in his physicality and ability to shield his opponent away from the ball.

He also has elite endurance and is comfortable in possession.

The 23 year-old recently spoke about his future with Man United and Bayern Munich also been linked to his services.

“It spurs me on and gives me strength to improve further. The fact that other clubs are dealing with me shows that I perform well.

“But I only concentrate on Borussia. We can still achieve great things this season."

While it is true that Liverpool have Fabinho in the holding midfield role he has had a inconsistent campaign to date, and some competition could push the Brazilian to the level he produced in the second half of the 2018/9 campaign.

The other name mentioned in the report is Thuram.

The 22 year-old is the son of French legendary defender Lilian who played for Monaco, Parma, Juventus and Barcelona and is the most capped player for the French national team.

In direct contrast to his father, Marcus is a forward who signed for the German club last summer after previously playing for Guingamp and Sochaux in Ligue 1.

On his arrival, Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said : “He's a fast, robust and dangerous assailant who fits very well in our squad and we are sure he will make his way in the Bundesliga.”

So far he has scored 10 goals in all competitions for his club this season.

The scouting report on Thuram says that he is quick, direct and with the upper body strength to clear defenders out the way and his game has been sickened to Man United forward Anthony Martial.

He has represented France in all the under-age levels and it is believed he is close to getting his first senior call-up.

With the burden of the current front three at an already high level, it could be increased to unprecedented levels in what could be a cramped calendar due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

So having a player like Thuram with significant senior experience while still being of a young age could be a smart bit of business for the Reds.
