He would be crazy to take that job. They fucking hate him. A few bad results and they would turn on him faster than any other manager. I'm sure they would remind him of the "small club" quote at every opportunity.

Yeah he made the same mistake with Chelsea.

Jamie Carragher said in an Interview a few days ago that Benitez was the best manager that Everton could get now, so it's pretty clear that he will take it if offered.

He took the chelsea job, admittedly on a temporary basis but would have stayed on if the club had wanted him.

Some more lovely one-eyed irony in this, the reason American soccer fans should spend their cash in Walton is because they aren't murderers or brought shame...

The country of native genocide and decades of institutional racism? Their money would be more than welcome, it seems...

Everton going after the US market asking “where are our fans?”, using their “unparalleled history” and “values” all based on a survey of 100 fans all Just buzzwords that sounds like it’s someone’s a-level marketing coursework.

“What fascinates me is that these American fans had to pick Everton,” says France. “I was brainwashed as a kid and had no say in it. Everton is in a very poor part of Liverpool, a very poor part of the UK, and a very poor part of Europe but Americans love history and Everton has unparalleled history. American fans are also attracted to the club’s values. One of the things about Everton is that it has never brought shame on the city of its birth and it has conducted itself in an appropriate way.

Clearly ignoring all of the clear examples of their unparalleled history.

Chucking bananas at black players is not a shameful episode then? Myopic, as per.

It's great that more and more of us are onto them, they hate it too.

Good. For as long as they peddle mentally-ill bile like this, they deserve the endless misery they wallow in.

Hahahahaha! They're kidding, right?!

“We came up with a primary focus on North American and the USA and some other countries where we know there is a growth opportunity – Colombia and Brazil. We asked ourselves where are our fans? Where do we have links already?”

Fans who latch on to a club because their personally favourite player currently plays for them, will follow the next team he signs for quicker than a duck going south in winter.

"One of the things about Everton is that it has never brought shame on the city of its birth and it has conducted itself in an appropriate way."

Just couldnt wait to get that in, could he? Cunt.

Straight outta GOT, that.

What clubs have a parallelled history, anyway?

I would have thought that Americans are drawn to sports teams either because they are from the same city, or because it is a winning team. They're not inclined to start following a team that has some 'history' but doesn't fit the above criteria.

I think there is a niche for the cool kids to pretend they support a non-winning team (with unparalleled history, of course) but West Ham got there first.

Americans won’t give a toss that Brian Mcbride used to play for them or that Sylvester Stallone got to use their stadium in one of  his films after doing a few laps of their ground. They have no connection to the club or city. If they are interested in picking a club they will go for one which has a chance of success.

It just seems all very futile and very very late to try and tap into the US market. The article itself calls out how much of a challenge it will be and all they can say is “well we’re unique”, so are Fulham and they have just as many links to the US (if not more) than they do.

"According to David France, a Liverpool-born Everton historian who has lived in the US for 44 years, the club’s relationship with North America is a long one. France has written 18 books on the Merseyside club..."

Holy fuck! 18 books? On Everton?! What a lunatic.

This. Yanks only love winners. And if you havent won a trophy since 1995, you can hardly call yourselves 'winners,' can you?

Not sure you can be quite as sweeping as that.
There’ll be a few reasons foreign fans decide to support a team.

Winning is obviously a big one, playing exciting football is another and having a player from that country is probably third. If you combine them all then you hit the jackpot.

Not having any of those, but having an unparalleled history, and you might be struggling.
