This is a bit of a myth mate. If you’re referring to Earl Barrett, then they had a couple of black players before him - Trebilcock and Cliff Marshall.

That said, there was quite a lot of racism at Goodison in the 80s and early 90s, but I think that went for the city. Liverpool has our fair share of it round then too, just not as prevalent after Digger signing.

I was going to pick up on that: they weren't the last to have a black player, but they were the last to have an all-white squad (a fact their fans saw fit to celebrate in song).

Ferguson will be doing a similar job for him as Thommo did for Ged. No question this appointment improves the whole football set-up at that club, perhaps more importantly for the future than whatever effect he has on their first-team.

Know-how and credibility is all, and they’re finally getting someone full of that rather than full of something else. His knowledge, experience, connections and advice will be worth their weight in all the gold they’re giving him.

Makes things interesting and gives the Derby back a bit of the spice that was threatening to drain away. Telling them they’re favourites for it now will be like going up behind Vidic with a Torres mask on.

It will all end in tears and within about a year.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the relegation zone come April time either.  He won’t have a clue who any of their players are and won’t give a shit either.  He’s not there to win things he’s there for a pay packet.  He’s just another one of these fellas with a big name on the managerial merry go round.  He did well with Milan with player for player probably the greatest ever team ever assembled and then just went around all the top clubs in each country who spent the most money.  He’s been sacked within 2 years in every single job after taking them backwards.  His reputation is honestly one of the biggest myths in football.

Ancelotti is an excellent manager and using a two year timescale before a sacking is a bit unfair given how easy it is for that to happen at most clubs these days. He has won multiple honours, but not for a while and only at clubs with good players and loads of cash. Everton seem to have a decent wedge of cash but the players??? And how do you attract good players to a club with a revolving door manager policy? You might get a couple of decent signings but they honestly need at least a dozen to be a top four side.

Unpopular opinion but I hope they get it built and I hope they start challenging the Mancs and Spurs etc for the minor CL spots

It'll bring a huge amount of money into the city; kickstart Liverpool Waters and possibly provide the impetus for some much needed transport infrastructure

I remember the 80s fondly when we both had great sides

Absolute nonsense. 3 champions leagues and a premier league and fa cup double happened. And that’s before any of the other domestic pots he won elsewhere.

He’s a quality, top tier manager. How anyone can question that is beyond belief.
