A ban on Catholics until the 1970s?

I've never heard of that. Any truth in it?

Probably another taxi driver rumour.

My uncle made his debut in 1963 and went to a strict Catholic school in Norris Green. Also got married in a Catholic Church in 1965 during the football season.

It's more than a bit sad that someone can think this never mind post it.

I remember when united won that game against sheff wed with 2 goals after 9 minutes added time back in 94. I knew then the twats were going to end their 26 year wait but never did I think I wanted to die because of it.

yeah, it just meant I had to retire my Terry Waite- 'have Man Utd. won the title yet?' - t shirt. which was mildly annoying at best

I think traditionally Everton were always thought of as the catholic club in the city.

But a club formed by St Domingo'd Methodist Chapel.

Football and religion really shouldn't mix. Religion should stay at least 500 yards from football at all times.

Indeed.

Since that Bloo helmet is so well-versed in the origins of our club you'd think he'd know that it wasn't just about them being too mingey to pay the rent: there were already tensions caused by the Everton board being Methodist Temperance nuts and Houlding being a brewer.

Tommy Smith was catholic and went to St Johns in Bootle. Who’d have thunk it , another pile of shite from the Blooz.

Chris Lawler. The Catholic thing is nonesense.

Yes. Utter bullshit. Tommy Smith's funeral was at St Joseph's Catholic church in Blundellsands last year.

Just seen your post Sir Roger.

Like you say. Another Evertonian talking complete and utter shit. Who would have thought that?

I am still struggling to sleep worrying about the Spurs fan we battered in Madrid.

With regards to the success being built on socialism, the vast majority of that success has only come since Shankly created the grounds for it. It was Shankly's socialism that the success was built on, because before him, Liverpool didn't have a record of success that stood out from their competitors, as the club had only won 5 1st Division titles and no cups. The quote from Peter Moore says the club's success has been built on socialism, not the club itself.

So to hark back all the way to 1892 and referencing Houlding being a tory, is another example of selective vision from a Bloo. Who'd have guessed?

One of the replies on there says Liverpool were a mid table club before Murdoch and his SKY money. It's as if we didnt win 4 European Cups and won the league 18 times.

Depending on what your view is as a neutral its between us and Man Utd as the biggest clubs in England and has been since the late sixties.

They are absolutely obsessed with the fact that they were kicked out of Anfield.
