The sad gets have a real problem next week.

They obviously would ordinarily happily see their team lay down for their new manc pimps, but they really can't afford a 3rd straight league good hiding - they'll be in bits all week.

They're gonna get a hiding anyway with the squad they have. They don't really have a choice, it's not like they will easily get a point even if they try

David Moyes is in that group of managers...

He's in that group of managers along with guys like Mourinho, Wenger, and Mancini that I don't think have adapted enough to be successful at the highest levels of club football anymore. The game has been dominated in recent years by high intensity sides who can effectively press and dominate the opposition by giving them no time on the ball and being able to keep it themselves. None of those guys do that and as a result they've all slowly faded away.

The only way he's in that group is that they all have more than one vowel in their name.

Our success isn’t about us being brilliant, it’s about all the others being shit. Just look at what happened at GP last season as evidence............l

Champions league is a joke really, how a side can lose half it's group games and still win the tournament is baffling,
Definitely needs changing up
It's not what it used to be, if Millik hadn't missed a sitter and Mbappe not messed about in the 93rd minute and Anfield they'd of been out, also Red Stars fans being banned from going to Anfield, meant Red star didn't have anybody supporting them. The success of Ajax shows just how poor it was, how a team like Porto got anywhere near the quarter final, Roma's performance in the first leg of their semi final was embarrassing the previous year. Juventus are pretty poor, Real, Barca, and Bayern aren't what they were, plus PSG don't have the stomach when it's needed shows that it wasn't a big a deal winning it as it was in Istanbul.

Also people have to remember European football and International football is designed so bigger teams do well, because of seeding. So that's why Arsenal always used to get easy groups and Man City didn't, same with why we got Villareal and they got TNS, when we both qualified. As a result of that any time they play anyone who is half decent the big teams lose, like what happened with them in the group stage and teams like City and United. It's like after Rangers got relegated, Celtic got less money from the TV companies, because there was no competition which prevented them from signing decent players so they just couldn't compete. It's the same with Liverpool, their success is largely built on other teams being rubbish not them being good, just look at what happened when we played them at GP last season.

We played TNS in the first qualifying round, and had to play a couple more qualifying rounds before we could guarantee a place in the group stage. We couldn't prepare a proper pre-season because we had 6 competitive games to play in July and August of that year (plus a glorified friendly with the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco). They just had to get past Villarreal in the last qualifying round - a side from a league that was about a month behind in its preparations for the new season. By claiming that we always get easy draws, they are saying that Villarreal were some sort of Spanish superpower. They weren't. They were just a small club with a pretty decent but not exceptional squad, and with no European pedigree.

They shouldn't even have been in the Champions League qualifiers anyway. As winners, we should have qualified directly into the group stage, given the largest share of the TV money and Everton should have dropped into the Europa League (which they kinda did anyway). I'm sure there were some shenanigans going on with Dein (Arsenal and FA bigwig) reluctant to see Arsenal not get the largest share of the TV money, so they ended up with this compromise of 5 English teams going into the CL, and us having to start playing a month before the actual season started.

Villarreal got to the semis that year, to be fair. If Big Dunc’s header hadn’t been disallowed then Everton would probably have won the whole thing.

It's only one of many, many dollops of wrong in that post, but when they were getting beat by Villareal, we were beating CSKA Sofia, not TNS.

In 2003 Real Madrid won it and finished 5th. UEFA shit out and bounced the decision to the Spanish FA, who were more than happy to boot fourth-placed Zaragoza out of the way. Incompetent twats at UEFA then failed to make a rule change guaranteeing a spot for the European champions and we got treated to the spectacle of these whining runts kicking up a fuss, before football reality kicked in in Villareal and Bucharest.

And won the next 5 likeReal Madrid in the late 50s/early 60s. David Moyes would have become the greatest British manager ever. But because Collina is a Kopite they weren't allowed to fulfil their destiny.

I've just seen their MOTD highlights from last night.

Considering Digne is supposed to be one of the few genuinely good players in that squad, he looked like he was wading through treacle for Sheffield United's one shot on target.

Thought that myself. He had a good 5-10 yard start on the SU forward. I don’t know if he was done for pace, didn’t realise the guy was there, or expected Little Arms to come off his line quicker. Also, Mina has gone off on a midfield adventure and vacated his post. Comical defending all around.

Never has there been greater poetic justice than what happened to them in Europe that season.

The desperate way they tried to petition UEFA and anyone who’d listen, even after we were both allowed in, was fucking embarrassing. Even for them.

Didn't they try to exclude us from the TV money pool for the group stages? And then went and excluded themselves instead.

Exactly that. The most petty, small-time shit.

They thought they had one over us and couldn’t handle it when we blew their laughable achievement out of the water.

Yeah, the Sky interview with Moyes sipping champagne just a few days before Istanbul was hilarious-
