Stannis was a great character ruined by the writers. Burning his daughter alive? Stupid. Trying to capture Winterfel without any siege weapons, no horses, being totally outnumbered and soldiers starving and freezing half to death? Come on. Stannis was supposed to be a capable military leader, not the idiot he became in his final few episodes.

I thought Stannis burning his daughter was incredible, truly shocking TV and really pushed the boundaries. Didn't think it was stupid at all, just a very dark twist.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Tigs daughter getting burned in Sons of Anarchy pisses all over it.

That may have come first but the daughter hadn't really been built up like Stannis and it was his decision rather than some rival gang.

Stannis' burning was more shocking.

That's because you can imagine that kind of shit really happening, whereas in GoT there's witches and Dragons flying around.

It was definitely shocking, hard to watch really. But I just don't think Stannis would have done it, not in his character.

It wasn't at all. I'm getting emotional about this.

Agreed, she's a very beautiful woman.

Nobody beats Missandei, though.

I'll never forget her first nude scene and where I was on THAT palmy night.

She's the image of the first bird I was ever really mad on, I asked her out but she had a fella who looked like Adam Ant, I spent the next few years avoiding her in bars Jason Bourne style.

Started rewatching it from the beginning last night.

Only two episodes in but already a massive difference.

First episode Cersei states that they had travelled from Kingslanding to Winterfell and it had taken them a month!

Completely forgot about the distances as they pretty much invented warping between locations in the final seasons.

The theme tune is in a higher pitch, as are everyone’s voices.

Weird stuff

Found out today that they reshot the majority of the pilot, with some characters being recast, and it was filmed a year later. But they included some of the first pilot, which had been shot on film instead of digital, which may add to the strangeness (and changing hairstyles!)

How devo'd would you be now if you were one of those even-shittier Hollyoaks-levels actors who's role was recast?

I’ve rewatched  seasons 2-4 in the last week. It is a totally different show. The bits in seasons 2-4 with Tywin, Tyrion and Joffrey are stupendous TV, right up there with the best of anything.

I delayed getting into this at first because of all the dragons and tits stuff. On reflection the characterisation, acting and  direction made me really enjoy it. From about season 5 onwards it became what I feared it was to begin with: dragons and tits but by then without the tits.

Before I got into it, the fantasy element put me off but I happened upon an episode. Of all the episodes it involved the red witch giving birth to a shadow and all the stupid magic shite at the city of Q'aarth, this put me off for probably another 18 months. Most likely the worst episode of the whole series and I don't think it even had any white wankers on it.

I rewatched a bit of the first season recently with my dad who has never watched the show and I forgot how graphic it is at the beginning compared to the later seasons. Tits in every episode, a lesbian scene and Emilia Clarke crying while getting railed multiple times. Bit awkward.

I did as well.

Another way of putting that would be #metoo

I actually think it’s a good thing that it probably couldn’t be remade so graphically now. I’ve never really understood the desire to see tits and cunt in mainstream stuff - surely that’s what porn is for.

Not stupid at all but a bit telegraphed. I think the shock was in realising that Stannis - at that point an ambivalent character - actually had no redeeming features.

With the possible exception of Missandei in the last season there probably wasn’t a really shocking moment after that. Just lots of CGI and main characters getting away with shit.

I haven’t read the books and probably never will but I’d have liked to know more about the Brotherhood and how they tie in with the red woman.

As as a non-book fan the last 2/3 seasons left me with lots of questions.

The main feeling though is dissatisfaction. Are we meant to believe that these characters and events bring that world to the brink of Sam’s naive democracy, or just to think that they have found another island of peace in a see of enduring war and disorder?

Was Dany predisposed to brutality because of her family, because that’s the way life is it because power corrupts?

More to the point, two weeks on, the thing that bugs me most is Jaime’s story. I didn’t want him to be a hero but the whole shagging Brienne thing was just weird. Jaime the character deserved a much more epic ending.

Bit fucked here lads. Night x

Good read that, Woolster.

But there was nothing wrong with the writing. Nothing. No plot holes. No fan service. No plot armour. Nope. Let's just all say it was brilliant to save face instead of back tracking with humility and admitting it was a pile of Pogba.
