Completely forgot about the distances as they pretty much invented warping between locations in the final seasons.

Weird stuff

 

Season 1 is a masterclass in plotting.

 

They're able to get you to understand and feel the sense of history of both Westeros and between the characters. You get a lot of scenes that don't move anything forward, but really let the story breathe and get you to invest in these people. As well as that, the plot moves at a pretty frantic speed. Cat kidnaps Tyrion, Jaime almost kills Ned in the streets of Kingslanding, Danny's husband kills her brother and King Robert dies - this all happens in one episode after another.

Aye, and hearing Steve from Line of Duty with a broad scots accent on a chat show was a shocker as well. Checked up on him on wiki and he was born in Greenock and was actually on Morton's books at some point. Obviously jibbed it for acting when Brechin didn't come in for him.

Stannis was a great character ruined by the writers. Burning his daughter alive? Stupid. Trying to capture Winterfel without any siege weapons, no horses, being totally outnumbered and soldiers starving and freezing half to death? Come on.
