It was what put me off the books truth be told - seemed a bit of an overkill. And more or less highlights that the books are really two stories - the first being Starks vs Lannisters which ends, and the other begins. I don't think you can constantly kill off characters and expect people to stay with the books. Just my opinion but I don't think I will bother reading the rest of the series

Wait till the last episode.

The last scene will knock your tits off.

I hope in a good way though. That whole scene was emotionally draining' date=' even though I'd had it spoiled for me. I didn't even realise it was that bad for me. I'd watched it right before bed and every time I closed my eyes [nsfw']i saw robb being stabbed again and again and again and again[/nsfw]. Not a good sleep.

I was shocked. I AM SHOCKED.

Potential spoilers for anyone who hasn't watched episode nine yet:

That's a good thing though right? So many books have to have happy endings for all the characters we like. Life isn't like that, and neither are Martin's books.

I found the red wedding seriously disturbing in the books, just as I found Ned Stark's death, and that emotional shock is part of what makes for such a great plot. When a character you've grown to like gets killed off, it gives you something visceral that you just don't get from most fiction.

Books shouldn't necessarily be easy to read and neither should TV be easy to watch. I like the dark side of this story, and I'm looking forward to more of the same.

Haven't watched the episode yet, but for those complaining that the series was slow to get going, it's certainly not going to finish that way!

Serously getting through the story arch so fast is Martin going to fuck the writing the rest of the books off and just have the tv series finish it. I remember being surprised at some of the story lines and character deaths would of been interesting to of watched it not knowing what happens.

Ned shocked me, in a good way - I knew what the books were about- but my problem is that he does this all the time, I understand that life isn't always wine and roses - but at its core it is still a fantasy story. The first 3 books were based on the Starks and revenge and the King in the North - this seems to get ignored with all the other plot lines. He has essentially killed off what was driving the narrative in the first 3 (4) books. I didn't like it - this is what turned me off the books. I'm probably being a bit of a fanny - but I thought it was unnecessary.

I'm not sure if the books were ever about the alpha Starks; they're just characters in a larger plot, and their story arc is just one of many. Won't be sure what it's really all about until he finishes them, but there are lots of ways it could still go. The white walkers, Bran, Daenarys and her dragons, Stannis, Arya, Tyrion, Jon Snow, let alone all the minor characters and the others introduced later in the books ... still a hell of a lot to resolve without Robb Stark. Let's face it, his character was going nowhere anyway. He was never going to end up winning his war.

Well played on not posting any spoilers lads because I went into this episode without knowing what was going to happen and as I said on the last page he was one of my favourite characters, behind Tyrion and Ser Jorah.

Someone said as well that next weeks will be even more shocking and I cannot wait but I have still not come to terms with that last episode.

Next weeks will be... interesting. Not sure how far they will go. There's A LOT they could try and fit in. My money's on (serious fucking spoliers in the tags!!):

The series will end will Ygritte's death, Tyrion being arrested, Sansa escaping with Littlefinger and Arya getting on a boat (last line of the series, surely). Oh, and the reveal that Ramsay Snow is Bolton's son as the deception is explained (probably by Tywin in VO, legitimising him as Ramsay Bolton).

That'd leave an action-packed start to next season... fuck, I can't wait again! Cunts!!!

One thing that sucks about next week is that the Red Viper hasn't been cast... so no Martell's yet!

I thought the first three books were fantastic, but the last two were a dog's breakfast. He lost control of everything.

I'm hoping they have to stream-line the story for the TV show, and bring it to some sort of timely and coherent conclusion.

This, in a nutshell is exactly how I felt about the books. The first three books I flew through in a few days, the fourth book is so slow it's almost painful. I've tried to force myself through it twice now and given up. I'm on my third attempt, to be honest I'm 3/4 through it and I still couldn't tell you what's happened. It's a hard slog.

Feast for Crows is tough going because there are so many new PoVs to get used to (and the whole iron islands thing) I was really enjoying it by the end, but Crows and Dance with Dragons happen almost concurrently so once Storm of Swords is finished (I think season 4 will mainly be Storm of Swords still) the series'll have the other two books going at once in a more cohesive manner.

I've been told this before, it's the only reason I've been plodding on. Apparently Feast for Crows and dance with dragons was going to be one book but he split the content into two concurrent stories from different PoVs. That explains the thin story line compared to the earlier books, if he padded one books worth into two.

There were some mild spoilers outside the tags but that is fucking shit mate.

Here:

Causes of Memory Loss

Here are some of the more common things that can cause memory loss:

Medications. A number of prescription and over-the-counter medications can interfere with or cause loss of memory. Possible culprits include: antidepressants, antihistamines, anti-anxiety medications, muscle relaxants, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, and pain medications given after surgery.

Alcohol, tobacco, or drug use. Excessive alcohol use has long been recognized as a cause of memory loss.

Smoking harms memory by reducing the amount of oxygen that gets to the brain. Studies have shown that people who smoke find it more difficult to put faces with names than do nonsmokers. Illicit drugs can change chemicals in the brain that can make it hard to recall memories.

Sleep deprivation. Both quantity and quality of sleep are important to memory. Getting too little sleep or waking frequently in the night can lead to fatigue, which interferes with the ability to consolidate and retrieve information.

Depression and stress. Being depressed can make it difficult to pay attention and focus, which can affect memory. Stress and anxiety can also get in the way of concentration. When you are tense and your mind is overstimulated or distracted, your ability to remember can suffer. Stress caused by an emotional trauma can also lead to memory loss.

Nutritional deficiency. Good nutrition -- including high-quality proteins and fats -- is important to proper brain function. Deficiencies in vitamin B1 and B12 specifically can affect memory.

Head injury. A severe hit to the head -- from a fall or automobile accident, for example -- can injure the brain and cause both short- and long-term memory loss. Memory may gradually improve over time.

Stroke. A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is stopped due to the blockage of a blood vessel to the brain or leakage of a vessel into the brain. Strokes often cause short-term memory loss. A person who has had a stroke may have vivid memories of childhood events but be unable to recall what he or she had for lunch.

Dementia. Dementia is the name for progressive loss of memory and other aspects of thinking that are severe enough to interfere with the ability to function in daily activities. Although there are many causes of dementia -- including blood vessel disease, drug or alcohol abuse, or other causes of damage to the brain -- the most common and familiar is Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is characterized by a progressive loss of brain cells and other irregularities of the brain.

Other causes. Other possible causes of memory loss include an underactive or overactive thyroid gland and infections such as HIV, tuberculosis, and syphilis that affect the brain.
