Car Insurance

Insurance back home is fucking ridiculous. When I first started driving I was living in Devon, granted a cheap postcode, was paying £750 a year on an 9 year old escort, got offered a job a Lancs County Council Structure Plan Group, so got a quote for my arl fellas in Waterloo, cheapest wanted another £1,700.

Bascially put pay to moving back home.

I'm gobsmacked by some of the amounts on here. Seriously, I'd jack the car in if I was paying what some of you are paying. I pay just under £400 fully comp for an A6 estate. I did have to pay a big excess on the replacement windscreen, which duly got a stone through it about a month after I got the car.

I don't think your mileage gets checked ever, does it?

I'm about to buy a new car and the insurance is coming down £46 a month. Even if I don't switch cars I'm making a considerable saving. I drive less miles than I used to so that's helped and I've *touch wood* gone from 3 to 4 years of no claims. Or at least I'm about to.

Here the actual transcript of the 'Online Chat' I had yesterday with Aviva.

You can request a copy from them after the chat has closed

They had sent me a renewal for £294, which was £10 more than Cooperatibe had quoted me. I have been with Aviba since 2005, and had asked them to match the price, and they wouldn't, so two days before it ran out I told them I wouldn't be renewing. Then they told me if I renewed online I could save £20, which I thought was close enough....heres what happened..

info: Welcome to Aviva's Live Chat Service.

info: You are now being connected with a Live Chat advisor.

Alice: Hi, you're chatting with Alice an Aviva Direct advisor. How can I help you today?

Steve : Hi Alice

Steve : ive been with u for car ins for a number of years

Steve : and life ins

Steve : and house ins at one time

Steve : my car is up for renewal but its more expensive than others, - i would like to stay but not at the cost offered

Steve : its about £30 dearer than Cooperative,

Steve : can you do anything, and would renew today?

Alice: Hi Steve. I can have a look at the renewal for you and see if there is anything that needs updating to bring the cost down but we do not offer price matching. Can I have the policy number please?

Steve : I tried that earlier and its all correct, person I spoke to basically said that the cost take it or leave it...I just thought you would try harder to keep you loyal customers. policy is CHM*****

Steve : they said i could reduce it by £20 just by renewing online, but it would still be dearer. I've looked at the online thing, and its a lot of signing up hassle

Alice: Thanks Steve. If we have looked through the renewal and there are no changes being made then the price we have quoted would stand. We don't offer price match due to the high level of cover we offer with standard comprehensive. We appreciate your loyalty to us and we do offer discounts for having more than one product with Aviva. The only offers and promotion running at the moment for renewal is the £20.00 online discount.

Steve : and i have to go throught the signing up process thing to get that? Register account?

Alice: No, you don't need to if you don't want too. I can send a link through to you that you just need to enter your policy number and surname into and you can renew from there. Would you like the link?

Steve : ok

Alice: Click here to renew

Steve : says "You’re policy is not ready to renew yet. Your renewal will be issued 30 days before your renewal date on your policy. Please try again when you are within 30 days of the policy expiry date"

Steve : probably because its set to expire?

Steve : You still there?

Alice: Yes I am still here, I will just see why that is the case. One moment.

Steve : ok, thanks

Alice: Yes it seems it is down to the fact the renewal has now been declined by yourself when you spoke to us previously. Are you now wanting to renew the insurance?

Steve : If it is £20 cheaper?

Steve : then yes

Steve : can you then reactivate the renewal?

Alice: Unfortunately not, You would now need to do a new quote online.

Steve : so a person is not allowed to change ones mind about renewing or not, even thought the renewal date is not here?

Alice: Its not a case of not being allowed, it is down to the information we are given, and you informed us you did not want to renew. You can have another quote online and we are more than happy to insure you, we just cannot restart the policy

Steve : the policy hasn't actually exprired yet, I hope!

Steve : it still has two days left

Alice: No we have just stopped the renewal, This is so we don't chase for a payment when it comes to the date and there has not been a payment. If you would like to have insurance with Aviva for another year, I am happy to send you the quote link to run through a quote.

Steve : Ok go ahead. Do I still save the £20 I assume?

Alice: No as you would then be taking out a new policy online, you would however save money with the online discount.

Steve : how much, may i ask?

Alice: Click here for a quote for car insurance.

Alice: It can be up to 20%

Steve : Its asking me for my name etc?

Alice: Yes it will do because it is a new quote.

Steve : What!? so its going to ask me everything? But you know it all. Im insured with you now.

Steve : can't i get a quote based on alll the info you already have?

Alice: Yes it is, because it is a quote. One moment and I will see what I can do with the renewal here. I may be able to copy all of the information and get the price back you had before. Please be aware that this can take some time.

Steve : you must agree its more than a little ridiculous

Alice: You told us you didnt want to renew, So now the policy is not renewing. So in order for you to have insurance with us again, it will need to be a new policy.

Steve : I get that bit. Its the having to put all the details in which you already have

Steve Hancock: im filling it in now

Alice: What I can do is copy all the details and do a quote for you. The renewal price will be the same as you had before, would that be okay?

Steve : So i have typed all details in as previous policy and its saying £302

Alice: Okay and are you happy to proceed with that quote online?

Steve : of course not. its more expensive than my renewal and i was trying to save money. my renewal was £294... you told me that there would be a saving by doing it online by up to 20% did u not?

Alice: Yes I did say that, but there is also an incentive with price to remain as a renewing customer, and you decided not to renew. As I have said earlier I am happy to copy your renewal quote you had before with the annual price of £294.00. Would you like me to do this for you?

Steve : I don't wish to labour the point but its not actually exprired, so the policy is still valid, im still a customer, and i ought to be able to renew right up to the point it exprires. are you saying that £294 is the best,, theres not going to be any online discount, and no discount for renewing online?

Alice: The best price we can offer is £294.00 as you are now not able to renew online. You are correct in saying the policy is still valid until the expiration date of the 26th of January. I am more than happy to copy the renewal details into a new policy for you, all the information would be the same, the price would be the same, just the policy number would change. Would you like me to do that for you?

Steve : No thanks Alice. I'm a little stunned to be honest. The only thing that stops me getting a the online discount is your computer system that doesn't allow some to renew if someone has pressed the 'lapse button' at your end. It isn't flexible to allow someone to change their mind even if teh policy hasn't expired. For me thats a NU issue. So sorry, I won't be renewing as its still more expensive.

Alice: I understand. My apologies you feel that way and hopefully we can be more competitive for you in the future, Steve.

Steve : I was aboout to renew for £274 (inc the £20 online) - is you system not flexible enough to offer me that figure - since you would have been happy enought to accept it 3o mins ago

Alice: I appreciate that Steve but I am not able to offer than price any longer as you told us you didn't want to renew. I can do the renewal for the same price as it was offered on the documents which is £294.00.

Steve : you can't offer it due to policy? or computer?

Alice: Policy.

Alice: Is there anything else I can help with today, Steve?

Steve : Well in that case, a policy that would accept a renewal figure at 2.30 but not 3pm, even though the ins is still valid is rediculous. and if you are happy to lose business like that then I'm happy to go elsewhere.

Alice: I'm sorry you feel that way, I am happy as I have said to re set up the policy for the original price quote as that is all I can do.

Steve : Ok thanks then. Maybe you could feedback the reason i'm going elsewhere, - due to the inflexibility of your system, and its inability to allow me to change my mind - even before the renewal date?

Alice: I will of course feed this back and there is an option once you click "End Chat" to leave feedback.

Steve : OK thanks

Alice: Thank you for chatting with me today. If you've got a minute, we'd like to know what you think of our chat service. If you're happy to answer a few quick questions, click on 'End Chat'.

Alice: Why not follow us on Twitter; http://www.twitter.com/AvivaUKSupport and you can find us on Facebook too at; http://www.facebook.com/AvivaUK

Now the end of the story is that I then geta quote off Direct Line for £277, but they tell me I have to get proof of 9 years NCD, so I ring Aviva back to ask them to send me my proof of NCD out and the girl on the phone says I can see you have been a customer since 2005, can I ask why you leaving?....Mmmm how long have you got? So I tell her...

So 2 minutes later she has undone the thing that makes me have to get a new quote, allowing me to actually renew and then offered me £274 as it was their fuck up.

It was a good hour of my life wasted

I've been doing a lot of quotes lately as I am trying to get a new car. I pay £80 a month with Admiral at the moment, so I know extensively it's going down to £39 a month as of April elsewhere. Why the huge drop I don't know but it has.

Anyway, my renewal came through yesterday and it was an increase of 8p a month. Robbing cunts. Auto renewal? Not a chance. LV, e-Sure and the likes all around £39, I wouldn't renew with them even if they offered me the same price because I think that's totally dishonest.

Could have stopped her there and asked her how you are able to renew, she'd say by phone, as you did end up doing, and it'd been finished a bit quicker.

Unbelievable story that nastylizard.

You can just imagine "alice" sitting there with a plastic smile on her face reading from a script.

I've said before the car insurance model in UK is ridiculous. Their is no personal risk assessment, people are just lumped in together with massive assumptions made. There is no loyalty either as new customers are offered the big discounts, so the companies are just stealing customers off each other every year.

And the recent EU ruling about the removal of discrimination between males and females seem to have just resulted in big increases for females and modest ones for males just to even it up.

I had my car insurance renewel from Admiral a few weeks ago. I've been with them for 5 years, and the quote had gone up about £80. So I phoned them up and asked why, they said the usual crap, rising crime rates, blah, blah. I said to them that doesn't concern me, and as I haven't made a claim, my rate should have decreased not increased.

I told them I had a cheaper quote from AA, so after about 30 mins on the phone, they suddenly were able to offer me a more competitive rate. I asked why didn't you just do this in the first place, instead of trying to con me out of more money, which he couldn't answer.

He asked if I wanted to renew my policy and I told him no, as I was going with the AA, as they were still cheaper by £20, he hung up on me!!!!!

After reading this post I thought I'd get a quote even though my insurance isn't up until August, can't believe it will save me £70 a month, I pay £158 at the minute and im third party, fire, theft. The new quote is £87 and fully comp.

Needless to say ill be cancelling my current policy and getting with the new one, cheers

What a bloody racket.

I've just had a hire care delivered while my car is repaired after a bloke reversed into the side of me at the weekend.

As I signed the hire agreement documents I saw that the cost of the hire to his insurers will be £140 Per Day. One hundred and forty pounds.

I only need a small car the gets me from A to B while mine gets repaired. No wonder we're all paying so much for insurance

Irish Motor Insurance companies today being investigated by the State Watchdog and EU over price fixing and Cartel like behaviour.

Probably similar to whats going on in the UK market as most of the Irish companies are just branches from the bigger UK and worldwide insurance companies.

Not just car insurance. Any time any sort of insurance is footing the bill, the price of goods and services goes through the roof.

It gets worse. I've just had a call from 'Lisa' who tells me that they're expecting that my car will be assessed on Friday and that they'd hope to see the 'engineer's' report early next week. So tell me why you needed to pick my car up yesterday. Fuckin shysters, that's why
