I would prefer 2 signings as midfield is such a key area where games are won and lost and I still feel that we need another top quality midfielder in there. Jones has played in both positions this season, but I think he would be an asset playing initially alongside Carragher and then perhaps Kelly long-term.

Personally I think we have the makings of a quality CM unit. With Gerrard coming back in as well and maybe Aquilani to stick around. Jones would add the required depth. But I agree and would be delighted if we brought in Altintop/McCarthy/M'Vila.

I think we need 6 players for next season - centre back, left back, 2 wingers, central midfielder and a back up striker. If we bring in half a dozen quality players then I think we will be very strong next season and could mount a challenge for the title.

I really like the look of Phil Jones at Blackburn and think that he could be a good long-term partner for Martin Kelly at the heart of our defence and would possibly be a better long-term investment than Gary Cahill at Bolton. If money was no object and there wasn't the obstacles in the way of the deal then Leighton Baines would be a great signing at left back but I can't see Everton selling him to us. Jose Enrique at Newcastle has clearly improved but I'm not convinced by him defensively so I'm not sure who would be the ideal signing at left back.

Lucas and Spearing have been excellent in central midfield of late, but I still feel that we need another top quality central midfielder with a physical presence in a similar mould to Michael Essien and Yaya Toure. I have only seen Yann M'Vila play once but he looked very impressive for France against England at Wembley playing in the holding role. Physically very imposing and comfortable in possession.

I also think we need 2 wide players. One who is capable of tucking in, can play in-field and on either flank (Stewart Downing ?) and one genuine flair player who can provide creativity, guile and goals (Juan Mata?). Andy Carroll is likely to pick up knocks and bruises throughout the season so we may need to bring in another forward who can play through the middle as a target man (Connor Wickham?).

I agree that we need at least six top class players, but I'm not sure if it's wise to bring them all in during this window. So many new players coming in can cause unrest and turmoil in the squad. Difficult with six players settling in at the same time.

As much as I want us to win the title as soon as possible, I think we need to be a bit patient. I would be very happy with 2 or 3 top class players coming in this window. Even if we sell 6-7 players, we have talented youngsters that can play a role.

How much a player costs is irrelevant. If we can see something in a player at 1m but he is better than what we have, then you buy him. Equally if he's 30m and as kenny says "he's better than what is already at the club" the same applies.

it stands to reason there is probably less of a risk around some pricier footballers, but spending 20m didn't make aquilani or robbie keane any good, just as spending lesser sums did not make the likes of alonso, agger, arbeloa and pepe rubbish. it's about good player or not. Not expensive or cheap.

To some extent I agree. But we should stop giving players contracts which makes moving them on (if they're not a success) a problem. Which was more my point - we've given high value contracts to players who don't even come close to meriting that sort of money for years now.

So these gears you talk about, I guess he's just hidden them away somewhere waiting to unleash them once he moves to us? How convenient.

I remember the year he picked up the young player of the year award he looked outstanding, beating players or cutting back angling in dangerous crosses, then being in a average Villa side which in my opinion he has outgrown and stagnated his progress, he needs a fresh challenge and I'm sure in a flowing Kenny side he would flourish. Dalglish in his short time here has already raised the games of Lucas,Spearing and Skrtel who have all pleasantly surprised us (myself included).

My point being Ashley Young would be a brilliant signing for us.

I agree with a lot of what you say our midfield gets bullied by the more physical teams in our league Spearing and Lucas are midgets Meireles can't tackle and Gerrard lets players wander in behind him so an imposing def midfielder is a must. Kenny won't play two wingers he's quite pragmatic and will be looking for a player like Kuyt/Maxi on one wing and a flair player on the other side. Personally I think you will be able to judge exactly where we are as a team by the quality of the flair player/winger we buy. Andy Carroll looks like a player who will pick up a lot of injuries he reminds me so much of Dunc the drunk from across the park so a back up striker is needed unless we just use Kuyt who has struck up a great partnership with Suarez.

M'Villa is a good player though I wouldn't call him physically imposing. He's 6ft not exactly big either. I player who would suit us far better and is in the Essien, Yaya Toure mould you mentioned would be Moussa Sissoko.

Mousa Sissoko is a player that I like. Phyisally strong and a very good box to box midfielder who has been linked with a move to the Premiership for a while now.

Phil Jones- Composed, young and hard working. Exactly what we need for now and the future, every team needs one.

James McCarthy- Most people see him as the replacement for Gerrard, we must have scouted him atleast 5 times this season, he's very good for his age.

Juan Mata- A winger full of tricks and spins, fast, can score goals and is a 'flair' player.

Ashley Young- A winger who can play both sides, come in to the middle when needed and has great pace, exactly what we need.

Jose Enrique - Definitely improved and very composed, one of the best leftbacks in the prem this season.

All of these would be good business from a single summer. In January we can look at bringing in a back-up striker and possibly other back-ups.

Im not sure we need a left back unless we sell Johnson, there are very few great left backs about and even less that would be better than him.

Kelly,Robinson,Flanagan,Johnson, there isnt any point of stiffling the progress of the three youngsters.

Unless Kelly gets moved inside i dont see the point.

It will be interesting if we try for Micah Richards again, cant see it as he is playing now

I'd like to see this happen with the Greek and one of either Agger or Skrtel going too (depending on what we could raise for either of them) and us buying a top quality centre half and a left back.

We'd have great strength and depth of cover at the back then.

RB: Johnson and Flanno

CB: Carra, new signing, Skrtel/Agger, Kelly and Wilson

LB: New signing and Robinson

We also have Kelly and Johnson to cover both right and left back respectively if need be.

Can I just say that we need a specialist left-back. You're taking away 20% of Magic's game by playing him there. Robinson is 17 and Flanagan has played one game there (albeit a good one). A left-footed fullback would help get more balls in the box for Carroll and with Johnson, Kelly Flanagan on the right, service should be decent.

Funny thing is that watching us against Fulham reminded me of Arsenal. Only question was where Carroll would fit in? However I think Suarez a new wide player and a fit Gerrard would help us get quality balls into the box and give us the variety that Arsenal lack. In a way they are oddly predictable.

We may need 6 players but we've got to be realistic. Signing 6 players in one window won't be easy - unless we're Citeh and don't care about value for money. Let's not sign players we aren't too sure about just because there's a gap in the squad. I don't know the biggest priority, but CB, LB, CM and winger make sense.

In a different way to how I wrote it? ;)

I do, you're right. I'm not saying he's shit. He's not, he's solid, fairly reliable, utterly non-prolific, and pretty unremarkable in every way. To me, I don't think that's 15-20m player.

Mister, you talk a lot of sense.

At least the owners have seen at first hand today that there needs to be significant investment this summer if we are to be competitive next season. We have been on a great run of late but today's game with Spurs highlighted that we are still short of 5-6 top class players to go straight into the first team.

On todays evidence our most important summer signing is an upgrade on our 35m£ striker.

I think you are a far way off with your assessment. 5-6 players to go straight into our first team? I couldn't disagree more... I think a winger and a LB is enough to be very competitive come next season. Other than that we do need competent squad players though.

Just f**k off will you he was only just back from injury today, he really shouldnt have started, he was loooking the part just before he got injured. Judge him next season after he's been to the u21 champioship and fully fit and with hopefully a decent wigner supplying good crosses.

Another 2 goals for Charles N'Zogbia today. He is maturing into a very good player. If we are unable to attract marquee signings this summer then he may be a decent addition particularly as he will only have 12 months left on his contract at the end of the season.

LB and one wide player with the ability to retain possesion, pass and cross who is quicker than Maxi and one who is or will be a top player. As good as Speo is we need another CM to partner or play in place of Lucas for those times when Stevie is not available. Four players who we need for sure and the CB depending on moves out.

Competitive for what though? To scrape a top 4 spot? If that's all we are after, a LB, winger and some squad players may or may not do it. It's nowhere close to challenging for the title though. Which I presume is what Kenny and the owners want, given the scum just overtook our titles record. Hopefully our owners are a lot more ambitious than you, who seems not to give a fuck about that. And fuck off with that comment on Carroll. He really does have fuck all to work with. We are shit slow all around the park and have fuck all width.

Once we have players able to break on a counter with actual pace and put some good balls in, he will be much better. He's a fucking monster in the air.

At lot of people in football say he's a bad egg though and a moody fuck.

I read on twitter earlier something about us been interested in David Goodwillie from Dundee United, I know it's a twitter rumour so not taken heed of it but what's people's opinion on him, he's knocked in a few goals this season, Scottish young player of the year, I've seen him play 2 games this season he scored in one that's me out.

Royhendo from RAWK who helped us with Kop Faithful is a big fan of his reckons he has what it takes.

And yes it's a funny name and yes he was the lad questioned about a rape this season, to which he was released without charge I believe
