Oh and dont get me started on Group B rallying either

Mainly a rally man myself although like F1 rallying at the top level has become far too sanitised and all about "product" these days. Group B and Group 2/4 is where it was at.

Been fortunate enough to have a run out in a 6R4 and an RS200 from the group B days and my navigator did Rallye Deutschland in a 205 T16 a couple of years ago. They are fucking awesome.

I'm halfway through rebuild on a Mk2 Escort as a road car and had been planning on getting the shell on my Mk1 prepared to rally this year (potential redundancy and uncertainty on how going full time self employed is going to work out are halting the Mk1 for now).

I used to like the BTCC back in the 90s when there was the likes of Tarquini, Rydell, Thompson and Menu. Nowadays there is the WTCC with better drivers likes the Mullers, Farfus and Priaulx, and better cars like the SEATs and BMWs, but it's more clinical and less entertaining than the 90s version where there was ALWAYS something happening.

The problem with F1 these days is that the drivers are very much secondary to the technical aspects. Not that all that isn't important, but it's the main focus on the commentary too when they talk about grainy tyres costing tenths of a second per lap etc. Also, a lot of the new venues such as Bahrain and Abu Dhabi imply that the focus is on the money generating activities rather than the quality of the drivers.

Same here, I'm into Rallying more than F1 - problem with the 'product' in Rallying, is there isn't really one, especially at WRC level - it's been on it's arse for about 5-6 years. The people in charge tried to make it 'F1 on Gravel'. Didn't work.

The best Rallying is the Historics - fantastic stuff!!

Felt 'driver aids' in the 80s turned it into something of a video game sport where there's anti-stall, traction-control and a steering wheel increasingly chock full of buttons to alter power and handling. Some have since gone but imho it's only in the wet you see genuine car control.
