£4m to West Ham being talked about in the gossips.

If he really is a reds fan, then he'd be the sort of person we want in the trenches, no?

In any case, for £4m it would be a negligble investment on a player who could still give us 4 years of top service if he's handled right by Kenny.

I think if he was called Djimi Pornwank then fans would be talking him up as an option, but because it's plain old Robbie Keane there isn't the same interest.

I'd rather chance £4m on Keane than £10m on Oxalde Chamberlain or whatever the fuck he's called. One is 30 years old and has over 200 career goals to his name, the other is 17 and has 6 career goals.

JESUS CHRIST NO!

Please stop talking you are upsetting the hildren.

HR:

"Robbie Keane? Yeah terrific player, fantastic player. Terrific yeah. We might try and do a deal in the transfer window. Not meaning to be disrespectful to his club so I can't say much but its in the hands of the chairman. I don't get involved in that side of it."

Press:

"Harry but he plays for your team, Spurs?"

HR:

"Spurs? Yeah terrific club. Fantastic club. I don't mean to disrespect my current club but when Spurs come knocking you'd at least like to get the chance to speak with them. I'd like to go and talk to them at least see what their plans are and take it from there but it's in the hands of the chairman. I don't get involved in that side of it."

You don't give good guarantees so.

I was all for it when he signed, and I can absolutely 100% guarantee that I would have been all for it now, regardless what the consensus was.

You were wrong then and your still wrong now in that case. Which means you are an imbecile who is incapable of learning from his repeated mistakes.

6 million off to brum

You see, that doesn't surprise me, Alex McLeish isn't an idiot.

I didn't see Keane as a McLeish type of player, but obviously he regards Keane as someone who can offer value for money, for £6m, at the age of 30.

I'm inclined to agree with him.

Keane not starting for Spurs under Redknapp is hardly a barometer of a successful player.

£4M + add ons to Brum I think.

Bought for £17M/£20M two and a half years ago.

Sold back for £14M 6 months later.

Shipped out on loan to SPL.

Now sold £4M.

Suggests a player in decline. Extrapolate- what will he be worth in 6 months time?

Everton

Could go either way at Brum. Sometimes these January striker signings work out for struggling teams and hit the ground running. I still don't think he was in any way the right player for us, we need to think longer term and aim higher.

Keane is well passed it. I wouldn't even start him for Ireland. Doyle and Long are both easily better players at the moment.

It's called a lack of confidence. Something all our forwards are suffering from at the moment. Are we going to sell them all?

Was always under the impression that he basically never fitted into our team when we played 1 up front and that he was best utilised as a second striker in a 4-4-2 as he tended to be at Spurs. With us he was either back up to Torres, back up to Gerrard or shunted on the wing, and neither of those 3 were really suited to him.

If we're going away from Roy's 4-4-2 then I'd say any striker we do go in for is going to have to be that hard-to-find balance of quality enough to do a job but willing to sit on the bench when Nando is fit and in form, and capable of playing up front on his own.

He had problems with the system we played, he wasn't the first or the last to struggle with it. But it's up to the coach to get the best out of him. He got 13 full games of actual playing time in his time here, subbed repeatedly when we had to go for the jugular, and then thrown out altogether even when Fernando was injured. Just when he was adapting to the system and scoring goals for us, he was dropped, then sold.

One game they both played was the home derby. Early on, Nando was through with only the keeper to beat. Robbie had a vacant net to his left. Fernando shot instead and hit the post. Keane was subbed with 25 minutes to go as usual, Nando was subbed with 10 to go, and we dropped two critical points in the race for the title. When he came back with Spurs in May, he put the ball in the same net, walked straight back to the centre circle, and was applauded for it. He would have got a medal too, had we won the league that year.

Today we're 13th with one quality forward, who isn't exactly firing on all cylinders. We need someone else upfront with him, and good quality forwards at a bargain price are hard to find at this time of year. No forward is willing to sit on a bench. He'll do very well at his next club, as he did at all his other clubs in the past, including Spurs.

He is great at taking penalties.

And running around a lot, going down a tad easily and complaining to referees.

And being professional off the pitch.

But that is all.

I said this at the time we signed him, not because I am an insightful genius, but because everyone knows it.

I wish him well.

Was it Athletico away were Gerrard put one all but on a plate for him and he tried to do some sort of training ground, mid air back heel flick and fucked it up completely? He still hadn't scored for us at the time.

That sums up Keane - he's not even a third of the player he's made out to be and he thinks he is. We've already got the biggest and best example of this type of player in Cole. No thanks.

Yes it was Atletico away, but it wasn't on a plate for him. He had already scored for us a few minutes before to give us the lead. Rafa subbed him at the usual time, and we didn't win.

Last year at home to Fulham, a cross came in for Ngog to give us the lead. Not only did he not hit the target, he headed the ball straight back out of the penalty area. He's still here.

He tried to do a back heel volley rather than just put it in the net. A truly terrible signing

Get Gareth Barry in to play balls from the left into him and we will be sorted

Inter Milan reported to be after Gareth Barry now. Leonardo and Moratti want Barry.

I think Rafa was crucified for suggesting Barry was any good, now it seems his form for City and the interest from Inter, coupled with England being totally shit without Barry in the team, kind of suggests Rafa might have had a fucking point eh.

The piece written by Syed today, attacking Ferguson for being a super-cunt, well that kind of suggests Rafa's 'rant' was actually quite accurate, just 2 years ahead of everyone else.

So you can fuck off with the veiled poke at Rafa's claims about Barry and Keane. Even his shittest, most awful season was fucking ace compared to this. So I'm inclined to believe the man when he says he had a plan to use them in a certain way. I'm tired of Rafa being treated like a joke, it's piss poor.

God, i remember that. People defending the signing because Rafa wanted Barry too and that was the only way it could have worked.

Imagine that, if Rafa was allowed, he'd of spent the guts of £35m on those two! They were both near enough 28 at the time too.

If I had my way he'd never have been allowed back on the LFC coach after that miss, and told to make his own way home and become acquainted with the transfer list because that's were he's staying.

Aye, Rafa's biggest fuck up that summer.

Not as many feathers would have been ruffled about the Alonso deal had we been looking at someone who was a huge improvement on Barry.

Signing Keane was a sick fucking joke.

To play in the 'Gerrard' position, where, the season before Gerrard had scored over 20 goals and created over 20 goals playing there.

Buying Keane was the start of the end for Rafa.
