Woke up to the Xfactor dirge this morning and thought why? I can understand that Biffy will get some exposure but allowing Cowell to change the title is a bit of an insult. I'm guessing Biffy as songwriters have control over the music? Cardle's not a bad singer but imo his voice is fairly weak. The Facebook campaign for the original seems to be in full swing but like the Buckley push I reckon it'll miss out on #1.

Do Biffy Clyro actually own the rights to their song? From what I read/hear/understand a lot of bands sign over the rights to the songs they write to their contract holders. I'm sure both parties will receive a pretty penny mind

What annoys me the most (and I don't have strong feelings either way for Cardle or Biffy Clyro. They're both just really meh) is that it's a straight cover with some christmas bells on it. It's a really pointless blatant money spinner.

Cowell has plenty of money and contacts, which should mean he should be getting original songs to give to the winners, not rebranded covers.

BC have definitively sold out - but I've read the writer could get up to £125 per play of the song, so it is at least a big sale.
