For those saying that the Unicef thing was a stepping stone to this are wrong. People are forgetting that there was a change of presidency in the summer and if Rosell hadnt of became president and Laporta had of stayed on, this wouldnt have happened.

The unicef thing was definitely a stepping stone to the inevitable sponsorship.

 

Maybe the English bid should have included sponsorship rather than trying bung the fifa members/wives with designer handbags

Barcelona have been living beyond their means, which isnt inconsiderable, for some time. They have effectively been forced to look at other options to bring in money and cover their debts.

 

Together with Real, they have massive tv deals which sees those two getting a huge slice of tv money while the rest of the clubs in La Liga literally scramble for the crumbs.

 

Barcelona had to take out a massive 120million quid loan during the close season to pay their players wages. That's roughly the same as this sponsorship deal.

 

They wanted to buy fabregas from arsenal for 40m quid, obviously money they didnt have. They didnt stump up the full market value for mascherano either so I dont get why some people are saying its a sad day because they've had a dose of reality.

I went to Tunisia once and walked 1/4 mile to he shops, I got third degree burns and nearly sweated to death (maybe a touch exaggerated...possibly?).

To be honest I wouldn't care less if we had that much advertising as long as it was paying for improvments at the club, which it would do now.

No one gets pissy about it all over racing leathers and cars which can have up to 20 different sponsors names all over them.
