I've just watched it again. Hard to believe it was made in the year of my birth - 1968. It still stands the test of time.

Brilliant performances from both Christopher Lee and Charles Gray. It's the one film Lee always said he'd have happily been part of a remake, stepping back into the character of an older version of the Duc de Richleau.

If it was remade, it's unlikely Lee would be offered the role. But I can't think offhand of any actors who could step into the parts of de Richleau or Mocata as well as Lee and Gray.

There were plans by Hammer to make a make an ITC-style tv series based around Richleau fighting baddies but it never came to fruition. Wheatley probably knocked it on the head.
