At one point during this season, Carra will only have Callaghan in front of him when it comes to having most appearances for the club, so some of he muppets in this thread better show some respect.

He has never been the most gifted player, but still he finds himself in the position he does, what does that tell people about his attitude and committment to this club?

My take:

This is a general view, not really directly regarding Carragher. I am old enough to remember the days of Bob Paisley. He could look like your favourite uncle, and come about softly spoken. But he was absolutely ruthless.

One of his main attributes, and one that made him hugely successful was that he did`nt hold on to players too long. Many players, and fan favourites were replaced just when they started to wane, even if they were still good players. Phil Thompson rarely figured after he was 27. Playing with injuries to keep his place for years took it`s toll, and as soon as Paisley saw him regressing, he was out. Same with Jimmy Case, Ray Kennedy, Terry McDermott, Steve Heighway and Ray Clemence to name a few.

Im pretty sure had internet been invented in the late 70`s and early eighties quite a few fans would have called him a cunt for treating legends like that, despite the huge success.

Carragher, just as an example, still has a part to play, but he is clearly not consistently at the level he was 5 years ago, and his time is nearing it`s end. We as fans should prepare ourselves for him being replaced, without it being disrespecting a club legend. Off course, should Carra be replaced, it has to be for a better player, and so far we havent signed players good enough to replace him.

I think Ferguson learned alot from Paisley, in the way that he has let quite a few of his stars go, when they were still good players. That way he got good money from them, that he have been more often than not reinvested wisely.

Doesnt stop him from being an absolute cunt, though.

To become successful again, I think we need to find that ruthless streak again, combined with tactical awareness and the ability to spot a player. Attributtes which the current management set up clearly lacks.

Sorry, this is a bullshit line of discussion. What Carragher has done in the past means nothing when analyzing whether it is better for our team for him to always be selected NOW. And that's the only thing worth discussing right now. Save all this hero worship and nostalgia porn for when he's retired.

Sorry but everything he has done in the past for us means everything to me to be honest. Never the best defender in the league or my favourite player but lives and breathes the club and has done so since day one. I think a lot of Benitez fans need to look at the bigger picture when looking at Istanbul. Benitez was ONE of the reasons why we won and no-one can take that away from him. I think putting the credit on him soley like people do is hugely disrespectful to the players who actually played in that game and ran their bollocks off.

Some fans make me laugh when they can wipe out 10 years of fantastic service just because they think their beloved manager has gone because of one player.

Well, being someone who was glad to see Rafa go, I'm not sure why you need to tell me any of that.

he is obviously in decline as he's getting a bit older, but as has been stated there is no one of quality to step in and take his place, seriously do people really think skrtel contributes more on the pitch than carra? In regards to all the rafa stuff, I'm fairly sure that carra did have a few pops at rafa to people, but that is not the reason why he got the sack-the reason rafa got sacked is because for his final 2 seasons the signings he made quite simply did not progress the team. I loved rafa when he was here but when we had to be clever with our signings due to the little money available he wasn't he pissed a lot of money up against the wall, and personally I don't believe people would even be talking about rafa now had we gone out and got a decent manager instead of who is there now.

I have tried to hold back on posting on this thread, for a few reasons to be honest...

One, it fucks me off with our supporters of the last 5 or so years, who are so keen to call a player a god (no attachment to "God") intended there, and then a few weeks/months etc down the line, call for their heads or any other part of them that suits the shite most suddenly get on the bandwagon for.

JAR, one of our great players of the not too distant past, who did amazing things for us, including quite a few spectacular goals, (of which one has its own song) not many goals have a song about them, yet makes the mightiest cockup to lose us a place in another CL final, and all of a sudden he is shite, and should be sold/hanged/flogged or whatever.

I could mention a few more, but you get the point...

Now, we have maybe one of the greatest servants to this club, who through the shite of todays media, suddenly has more power than the manager, and all of a sudden, he is a cnut.

A wanker who rules the roost over the actual boss, and has more sway with regards to the team than anyone, and should therefore be any of the above also.

For those who do call this man what they do, do me and those of us who have followed this club longer than most of you have been signing on, fuck off, find a club that warrants its heros being slated, or shut the fuck up, and fuck off also.

JC is a total legend, he has done more for this club than most of you gobshites will ever achieve, despite whichever email campaign is around the corner, or what you think you have done to rid us of C&A, and he will always be loyal to this club no matter what.

So to clarify for you.

Fuck off you tits, or, get on the team and serve as long as him, then you might have a right to have a say.

Good result today even if it was only WH, a win is a win, and no OG from JC.

So you cant hang him this week.

Sorry, but this sort of posting is just as fucking useless and divisive as anything by that clown mypost. We are fans, we judge players, rightly or wrongly. To suggest we need to be fucking players ourselves to even have an opinion is downright juvenile.

Support Carragher by discussing what he's doing on the pitch (and he was fine today BTW). But stop trying to pick fights with people who disagree with you. I suggest RAWK if you want to play the superfan competition.

Carragher is a legend- indisputable.

Carragher will, however, likely not be in the team when LFC wins the PL again. For the simple reason that he is getting on a bit and that we will not win the league for the next few years. It's going to be a heart wrenching decision, but when the money is there our manager will have to go and find a new CB to build the defense around and Carragher will have to accept a bit part role or being shipped out.

As for Carragher's SMS/Twitter or whatever getting Rafa fired- what???? Thought he was fired for crap results, going backwards and public laundry of internal problems.

Ignoring laughably paranoid rumours and focusing on facts when analysing our club? Come on mate, this is the Internet. What's the matter with you?

It seems Cantrellpool 20 does'nt like Jamie, everybody is allowed an opinion fine but this type of shit about one of our greatest servants is unexcusable and needs to stop, this is the shit he's had on Twitter in the last couple of hours about Carragher all because Jamie said Houllier was the best manager he worked with, absolutly no excuse to speak about any of our players in that way.

Cantrellpool

@SparkesJ Contradiction,narrow-mindedness,stupidity and no eye for detail-thats what it smells with.Big questions to ask regarding Agger now

Don't get me wrong, I wanted Benitez gone and don't rate him much higher than Houllier, both almost identical, but Carra's a rat.Nothing more.

Never wanted to say it about one of really dedicated servants of the club, but he's a rat to certain extent, meaning his own business only.
