Liverpool's Comolli personally scouts Southampton starlet Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool are monitoring teenage Southampton winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Reds' director of football strategy Damien Comolli was in the stands at St Mary's this afternoon to watch the son of former England international Mark Chamberlain find the net in a 4-1 win over Huddersfield in npower League One.

But Saints boss Nigel Adkins insists he will not welcome any bids for the highly-rated 17-year-old when the January transfer window opens.

"I didn't know he (Comolli) was here," said Adkins.

"But we will not start talking about all our players having a price, or putting a price on players' heads, we want to keep this squad together.

"We are not looking to let Alex go."

Have some of you watched our matches this season? Our defence has been fucking shite.

Carra will be 33 next month, Soto is 31 (and is our only consistent performer), Sktrel has been out of sorts and Agger non fucking existent.

Won't solve our problems. Our defence sits ridiculously deep but we have no width in attacking areas, so any time we want to stick a ball in the box it has to be Johnno or Konchesky that does it. As a result we are hugely stretched at the back, and it takes us a long time to close down our opposition when they attack from wide areas.

We also refuse to press the ball and instead play in two banks of four whilst allowing our opponents to have possession - our time on the ball averages sub fifty percent, probably around 45 away from home.

We probably do need to strengthen at the back, but more urgently we need to change our system. You could stick the best centre-backs in the world in our back four at the moment and we'd struggle, let alone Robert fucking Huth.

Looking at his transfer record as a whole, it doesn't look great at all.

For example when he was recommended Koscielny:

"We lost the chance to make a lot of money, too, when Damien refused to sign Laurent Koscielny, for whom [Arsenal boss Arsene] Wenger paid more than €12m [£10.2m].

"Koscielny was in the Second Division with Tours, whose manager used to play for us. He said we should sign him. He'd cost only €1.5m [£1.27m].

"Damien told me that, if you signed Second Division players, you ended up with a Second Division team. So the player went to Lorient and made them a fortune instead.

"My own view of Damien is he favours size and strength as the qualities he goes for first. Perhaps, he will do better with more money at his disposal at Liverpool than he did with us."

Looking at that, it also makes sense that we're going for shite like Huth!

Better than shite like Koscielny.

We've got way too many kids already with a stagnant rate of development due to getting no chances in first team football.

I'd insist on a 'one in two out' policy for a while to trim down numbers. If Ecclestone, Pacheco, Amoo etc aren't likely to make it here then sell them on with buy back/sell on clauses in the deal. We need to be more ruthless. At the moment, there is so many young players in the 'might make it' category that they are just hindering each other as they never seem to even get a decent run of games in the reserves.

Skysports.com understands Liverpool have rejected a loan offer from Birmingham City for Ryan Babel.

Birmingham have been long-term admirers of the Holland international and tried to sign Babel during the last January transfer window.

A summer move to St Andrews was again mooted for the attacker, while Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United were also showing an interest in the 24-year-old.

Babel has continued to struggle to make an impression at Anfield and has started only one Premier League game for Liverpool this season.

With the transfer window set to reopen, Babel's future has again come under scrutiny, with Birmingham making a fresh attempt to sign the former Ajax youngster.

Blues boss Alex McLeish is keen to add a more incisive element to his squad next month and tried to bring in Babel on a temporary basis.

However, it is understood to have been rejected by the Reds as McLeish's counterpart Roy Hodgson seeks to keep his current squad intact.

I hope it's more a case of they want Babel to go on a permanent basis and not a loan, like not wanting someone buying your shit car to take it for a test drive in case they discover how shit it really is.

More cunt owners then. Wasn't McLeish promised £50m to spend?

Don't know if anyone caught the breaking news on ssn. Man City are in advanced talks with Wolfsburg for the services of Dzeko.

They can have him. Suarez please.
