January 2011 Transfer Window Speculation Thread

Redknapp didn't buy Modric, he "inherited" him. Of Spurs' first choice 11, he has bought 3 players - Gallas and 2 of Crouch, Van Der Vaart and Defoe, in over two years. Hodgson uses £36m worth of subs to emphasise his point about emulating him. Clueless!

Yep alot of the players that are at Spurs, I'd guess 3/4s where there when Juande Ramos had them sinking like the Titantic.

But Redknapp came in and got them playing football. Just goes to show what difference a good manager can make.

When Tottenham beat Inter I think it was 6 or 7 of their starting line up had been there when Juande Ramos was manager.

So looking at the quotes in the Barrett article, he got the job because he said I can get the best out of the players here - which he clearly hasn't, we're worse.

Now he wants the chance to build his own team because he couldn't get the best out of Torres, Johnson, Gerrard etc.

He doesn't deserve that luxury, given he has brought in some woeful players in Konchesky and Poulsen. He thought Meireles (the one signing who has been a breath of fresh air), was a replacement for Mascherano? - they are totally different types of players. We didn't need Meireles, as we had Gerrard - hence he used him on the right whenever Gerrard has been fit.

I hope Comolli is incharge of the transfers, but then again I don't know if that is a good thing - because what if the new manager (whenever he arrives) doesn't want these new players?!

A new manager should have been appointed or Dalglish should have been given the caretaker job. As Hodgson isn't the right man, shouldn't be signing anymore players for us and isn't getting anything out of the existing ones.

Brian Reade. Tony Barrett, Chris Bascombe, etc all seem to have been very quiet though since Hodgson came in. Granted I am basing this solely on articles posted here, but I'm not aware of any major exclusives or anyting like that.

At least one of those names mentioned will have been chuffed to bits when Hodgson was appointed as it meant an Englishman in charge.

I'm guessing Roy's masterplan was to have Meireles partnered with Poulsen (the actual "replacement" for Masch) in the centre, with Kuyt on the right, Cole on the left and Gerrard up supporting Torres (and Lucas bombed out). Unfortunately for him, Kuyt was injured, Poulsen was absolute shite, Cole is in atrocious form and he lacked the balls to ask Gerrard to play right. So Raul ended up there, a fish out of water, all because Roy didn't know what he was doing.

Would love to get Tony B's opinion on him. Like Bascombe will probably say he needs more time and Brian Reade is saying "Yeah hes shit but hold on till the summer".

But I don't think Tony has given an opinion either way really.

You're one of the few people who thinks that. The majority opinion seems to be that he's been class and probably our best outfield player this season.

I haven't heard anyone say that. Like him but Lucas has had a better season.

Wasn't Meireles fault he wasn't at his best though, some old fool was playing him at right midfield.

I like him in centre midfield.
