Johnson on the way out according to the daily wail

Liverpool accept unsettled defender Glen Johnson wants to leave Anfield | Mail Online

Liverpool are stepping up their extensive search for a right back after reluctantly accepting that Glen Johnson is intent on moving abroad in the new year.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is a confirmed admirer of Johnson, after taking him from Chelsea to Portsmouth in August 2007, and will be among the first to respond to the England defender's imminent availability.

Wanted: Glen Johnson

Wanted: Glen Johnson

But while a return to familiar territory may appear an appealing option for the London-born 26-yearold, Sportsmail understands he wants to broaden his horizons by living and playing on the continent.

Juventus are desperate to accommodate his wishes and have asked whether they can sign him in January, despite only being able to meet Liverpool's asking price of around £12million at the end of the season. Intriguingly, Liverpool may try to exploit Juve's lack of funds by requesting that Brazilian-born Italy marksman Amauri is included in any deal for Johnson.

Finding a strike partner for Fernando Torres is another pressing transfer priority for Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson, and Amauri is described as a British-style centre forward.

Juve bosses were considering offering their in-form forward to Fiorentina, in exchange for Alberto Gilardino, but may now see him as a way of landing their main January target, Johnson. Amauri's name was raised during a recent meeting between Juve technical director Fabio Paratici and Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli.

After stressing their eagerness to sign Johnson, but admitting it could only be on loan to begin with, Paratici indicated a willingness to part with Amauri once he has recovered from injury.

Surely that is bollocks. Swapping him for a 30 year old striker who is a bit shite and has an awful goalscoring record.

I can see that Dempsey would be a good signing from a commercial point of view, I just think that he's several tiers lower than what we should be aiming at. Would United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, City buy him? Doubt it.

If we are going that route we should look at Edu or Bradley. Both are better than Poulson in terms of bench depth, have made something of a name for marketig purposes and are YOUNG and are still improving. Probably could be had for somewhat cheap too. I love Dempsey for the US team, but he's not a good fit for LFC.

Agree about Bradley. He's quality.

Now that makes perfect sense....why can't people see that.

He is a bad defender but a quality winger who will rattle the onion bag givin half a chance. Lets give it a try before we decide to cash in.

How many times have you seen him play right wing?

Nope.

They have the right to buy him for 16 million whether we agree or not.

If he plays well and impresses them then he is as good as gone.

In general it would be like that (I assume here, as well), and any sensible buyer would want it that way. Otherwise, it's just the right to be second in the queue for a player who does well. The press release, however, is too general, one would have to see the actual agreement to say anything definitive.

If it is second in the queue or right of first refusal, it would have been mentioned in the press release.

Can't help but feel that the Johnson stories are all bullshit. Even if they aren't he's starting to look like the break did him good and he's getting some confidence back. SI don't want him gone. He's not a terrible defender, not the best, but when he's actually thinking clearly he's not terrible at all. The problem was that he was all of a sudden being criticised by all quarters for his defending and he let it get to him.

Just looking around this story seems to be gathering pace, Its all about Jono wanting to go abroad and Juve wanting him but being a little skint!

The idea seems to be that we will do some sort of deal with them were they get Jono and we get Amauri their brazilian striker. If done right this could be a clever bit of business. Just wanted to know what peoples thoughts were on it?

I didnt think much of it other than, just another story until it has now been stated that Comolli and juves technical director Fabio Paratici about both players, and it seems to be well received by both teams... I have heard this before but not with Amauri, i read they would offer us a swap deal for jono, ill see it if i can find it.

Here are two links anyway that have been released. (it has all come from the mail, so has to be taken with a pinch of salt)

Yeah let us swap our 19 million pound right back (the only genuine one in the team at that) for a shit past it striker for whatever reason.

Pretty sure we will get some money in it too. Is Amauri shit? I just heard he had falling down the ranks a little over the last season after an injury.

You may be right though
