The Editor: Newcastle have broken their silence on the Andy Carroll saga - and have said a second bid from Liverpool has been rejected.

Liverpool FC confirmed this afternoon that Newcastle United had accepted a Club record offer for the transfer of Andy Carroll.

The Club have been given permission by Newcastle to discuss personal terms with the player, who will now travel to Liverpool for a medical.

If Carroll comes in here, puts in the same effort and shows the same talent he could be unreal and for a good 10 years plus.

Time will tell if this was a poor transfer, just as any other.

I'm optimistic given what the lad brings to the table. There are very few centre forwards like him in the world.

Spain - Llorente

Holland - No one, maybe El Hamdaoui and we'll be keeping an eye on Pedersen I'm sure.

Italy - Pazzini and Floccari

Germany - Gomez

They were the alternatives and any and all don't have the complete package that Carroll has at 22 save maybe Pazzini who just signed for Inter.

We knew the player we wanted, we went and got him and he represents the least risk regardless of cash but could give the most reward .

"Ferdinand has had his say on Twitter on today's transfer activity... "David Villa cost 34m....integral member of successful Spain team and played regular Champions League...UK market is crazy right now!"

The thick cunt seems to be really keen on this twitter business now, I wonder why he didn't reply when I tweeted at him about his, keiron dyer's and fat frank's sex tape...

Liverpool have announced the surprise signing of Coventry youngster Conor Thomas on loan.

The England Under 17 international has moved to Anfield on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Thomas, who has come the youth ranks at Coventry, is highly-regarded within the corridors of the Ricoh Arena.

The 17-year-old has only two first-team appearances for Coventry, including Saturday's FA Cup clash at Birmingham.

Liverpool's scouting staff have been keeping tabs on Thomas and they have now decided to bring him to Anfield.
