Meireles - best performance from any player all season in the first half. Oddly enough didn't look as good once moved out of position. Looking ripe for a goal right now as well.

Kyrgiakos - Ποιότητα, Γκολ!

Cole - very tough call, but the world class vision for that assist gets it for me.

That side played with an intent not befitting a Roy Hodgson side, so although it got scrappy in parts, overall the approach was much better. Playing a higher line certainly helped in that respect. As for the top 3 performers, I'd say

1 - Kyrgiakos - deserved his goal and proved to be a potent threat in their box as well as dealing with problems in our area. His movement attacking corners is excellent so Blackburn had to resort to foul (unpunished) means to deal with him.

2 - Maxi - looked lively throughout and Blackburn had trouble picking him up. He deserved a goal on that showing. He certainly benefited from the greater intensity and movement of his teammates, and that is exactly what's needed to get the best out of him.

3 - Meireles - another who deserved a goal and was unlucky that his effort went wide. It's noticeable that he always moving and making forward runs rather than getting it, giving it and standing still. Needs to be played centrally to be most effective.

Honourable mention goes to Torres, who showed that when he concentrates his mind on the task at hand rather than moping and sulking, it helps raise his game and gives the team an effective focal point.
