Yeah it's absolutely garbage food, it really is. I think as a kid there weren't many places you could get a burger, but decent pubs do really good burgers now, so I don't know why anyone would eat this shite.

I went in for a mcflurry and that was melted to fuck by the time I got it. I'll occasionally get a breakfast from  there when there's nowhere else open, but to say I enjoy it would be wide of the mark.

Burger King is better but their burgers taste no better than those rustlers microwave burgers.

I think it's their tepid breakfasts that finally put me off, in the end. I honestly don't know why anyone raves over them, the eggs are always green and rubbery, the bacon is always undercooked and stringy and that sausage patty thing is too herby (clearly to mask the rank taste of the pork). I still maintain getting breakfast food spot on appears to beyond most people, because i like my bacon smoked and slightly crispy, i like my eggs poached where the yolk is still a bit on the runny side and most of all i like my sausages to not be "cooked" by a phone torch.

Someone told me once, dunno if it's true but could well imagine it is -  that the US food standards agency took McDonalds to court because there was bovine shit in their burgers, but that McDonalds argued that as long as it was cooked it could be considered food - and they won.

I can absolutely believe it.

It's mad looking at the ingredients lists for simple things like french fries between the US and UK.

If you like the sausage/bacon McMuffins you can make them easily at home and they taste much better.

As for fave fast food, I like a good burger and there's a few decent independent places round here.

Clearly i don't, Pete! But i know what you mean. That's what i meant by nobody seems to get it right when you go out to get a breakfast somewhere. The majority of the posts on the "breakfast" thread are never cooked to the way i would like them to be, so i always do it myself.

Went to TGI Fridays over the weekend and it was a horror show, one of the worst meals I've ever had, it was a Sunday I dunno if that had anything to do with it.

Eating out is hit and miss in general.

Few years back I was given a £100 voucher to use at Rick Steins restaurant in posh Sandbanks

Decided to use it for a long lunch. The menu had the usual swanky dishes. I pushed teh boat out a bit as I had the voucher and you wouldnt go there often.

What really surprised me was almost everyone else there was ordering Fish and Chips at £20.

I dont think a restaurant can ever get near a good chip shop fish and chips, let alone at £20 each.

You didnt get many chips, the batter looked like it was over cooked and you clearly didnt get a load of bread and butter to make a chip butty!

Not a massive surprise, to be honest. Me and the Mrs were in York a couple of weeks ago and bought some fish and chips from a supposedly renowned chippy on the outskirts of the city centre. £23 for two large cod and chips and a (tiny) carton of curry. My jaw hit the floor. It was alright, nothing special (wools deffo cook their chips in different oil to the rest of us) but £23? I couldn't get over that. Decent sized cod and chips by ours is about £6.50, or at least it was last time i got one (which in fairness was probably about 8 months ago).  I blame Brexit...for everything.

I'm taking the Mrs to Tom Kerridges place in London, having been to his place in Marlow which is great.

There's one item that stood out on the menu...

With a 12.5% service charge on top you're paying over £40 for fish and chips.

On Steins place i went years ago and you missed a trick as you should have gone for the ceviche and then the tartar.

TGI Fridays is the Ninth Circle of Hell. Shit, overpriced food, crap music turned up way too loud & full of screaming kids

Just supporting British industry, I don’t see the issue…

Think that matters? He's still banging on about a coffee machine I didn't buy. I *liked* a coffee machine. That's how fucking Tory I am. If you eat fish and chips for 40 quid, you're just done for life.

Shrill. Big restaurant shrill.

There’s a story about, I think Shankly, where’s he’s pulled up on owning a Mercedes’ and they ask ‘how can you you claim to be a socialist and drive a Mercedes’?’

’Ah, the difference between me and you is that you want to own a Mercedes’ at the expense of others, whereas I want everyone to be able to own one’

Something like that anyway.
