If I was Hicks I'd be happy with 5m, not being hicks I don't like seeing players being sold.

If I were Hicks I'd be furious at the prospect of having my lovely, constantly accruing compound interest cut into.

Since it's now being reported substantially by people with reputations to lose, I'll believe it.

I wonder if the plan is to get a cheap replacement (Konchesky) and concentrate our limited resources further up the field.

Wouldn't surprise me. Konchesky is decent actually and is significantly better than Insua. Nobody's ideal left back obviously, but given the position we are in, I'd rather we spent elsewhere.

A dead animal would be a better option at left back than Insua.

Obviously would stink out the place though.

It's not as if we're gonna spend megabucks on a replacement, so Konchesky would be a short term solution.

I'd definitely agree with that. Go for dependable if not spectacular there, and try and buy some real quality further up the park.

Correct, I actially rate Koncheskey, defending is about defending as a unit not an individual, and Koncheskey can do that, FFS Gary Neville was the right full of the best team in Europe for a time.

I'd expect a leftback signing in a few days if this goes through... Otherwise, teams will hold us hostage on prices since we will be desperate for a leftback.

That said? We could do worse than grab someone under the radar and maybe not having a huge reputation.

I can think of a few that would fit the bill.

To clarify, i'm not perticularly unhappy that he looks to be going. I'm more concerned about who made the decision and what will happen to the funds generated.

The next player (who someone agrees a fee for) could be one that is of a better quality than Insua and i worry about what happens to those funds.

I dislike the owners as much as the next man, but if we improve the squad this summer, not only will I be amazed, but I will be very pleased. If we release players and replace them with better players, everyone should be happy from a footballing sense. Insua was really low hanging fruit in this regard though. There's a few more in this situation, so we do have scope for improvement even with tight finances.

Would love to buy back Arbeloa. If Jose (as is expected) buys in his own new defence this summer, Marcelo could be an option?

People stated that Insua was bad defensively, I'd hate to see them comment on this lads defensive ability.

Corporate Manager? or Management Consultant...which is it?

For those "praising" Koncheskey, is it him as a starter or as a squad option?

Can't see us buying 2 specialist left backs I'm afraid. Too much of a luxury that, given our parlous finances. I think we will buy one and use Agger and Reserves as cover. Unless we buy a young prospect.
