I think this has to be one of the main things on the pitch.

 

We have the third best defence, yet are seventh. So thats not a huge problem, especially considering all the chopping and changing we've done this season due to injuries at the back.

 

Retaining possession in the opposition's half and being more clinical with chances have been the main problems.

 

We don't seem to sustain pressure either. We have periods of five minutes or so where we pin teams back only to relieve the pressure by fucking around in own half for a while.

 

The players are clearly capable of playing more incisive football (as shown by the brief periods where it has happened), and at a higher tempo, so it should be encouraged that they do it more often.

 

A striker inbetween Torres and N'Gog in the pecking order would solve some of the problems of wasted chances. I'm not blaming our poor conversion rate entirely on N'Gog, as plenty of other players have been equally wasteful, but if we are going to play one upfront then a lot of the emphasis will inevitably be on them to get the goals.

Not really, improve the shooting and we only have to move back into our own half for the kick off.

To be fair, the way we are set up a lot of our shooting is from the edge of the box and beyond, as Torres is the only player on our books who regularly gets chances from nearer than that.

 

My main complaint is that our support strikers & attacking midfielders do not flood into the box quickly enough ( at all !! ). If we started doing this the stats would soon rise.
