Didn't realise this had been established. There certainly seems to be some amount of insiders listening in on Rafas phone calls.

Noone needs to wire-tap at Liverpool when all sides - all sides - rush to make sure their respective friends in the press are fully briefed on every single development.

I guess the Liverpool Way really did die out a long time ago.

Can Purslow sack Rafa alone? Or does he need Broughton's backing?

The current board of the club is Broughton, Hicks, Gillett, Purslow, Ayre and Nash.

There's no saying that it's one-vote per person, or even that all of those six actually have a vote.

You'd assume that Purslow, if he wanted to sack him and could sack him, would have done it already, wouldn't you? No point waiting around, is there? Suppose you'd maybe give it a while and see if he walked to save yourself some money, but there has to be a limit to that.

Broughton has always strenuously pointed out that he is not involved with the day-to-day running of the club. Hicks and Gillett seem not to want to have anything to do with it, or certainly don't want to be seen to have anything to do with it.

It would have to be a board decision, but would someone not have to table it? Not sure who has the authority or desire to do that at the moment.

Dunno if anyone saw Revista la Liga's seasons review last night, but Graham Hunter said the only thing that there are only two things that will get in the way of Mourinho joining Real Madrid.

1. He pushes it too far and asks for too much control from Florentino Perez.

2. A consortium who are trying to buy Liverpool, can complete their purchase, remove Benitez and offer Mourinho a competetive budget for players within the next month.

Guillem Ballbag was nodding in agreement. Just thought I would share this and would explain why he has been commenting on us in recent press conferences.

Internazionale have denied reports they have approached Liverpool's manager Rafael Benítez about the possibility of him replacing Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, should the Spanish club part company with Manuel Pellegrini, and will make a decision after Saturday's Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

The Portuguese told Marca: "My only options are Madrid or Inter. To get me to leave this club after two years of incredible work, only Real Madrid could achieve that. If I go, I will move with a clear conscience, having changed the club."

Asked about Benítez, Inter's sporting director Marco Branca told Sky Italia: "We absolutely have had no contact with Benítez. Our coach is Jose Mourinho."

Benítez has also been linked with the Juventus job in recent months but the Turin club are set to appoint the former Sampdoria coach Luigi Del Neri this week.

Benitez has also been linked with the Juventus hotseat in recent months but the Turin giants are set to unveil former Sampdoria tactician Luigi Del Neri as their new coach this week.

That would be akin to when Burnley replaced Owen Coyle with Brian Laws.

Are you saying its ok for Rafa to speak to Juventus whilst still manager of Liverpool one year into a 5 year deal and without permission of the club?

Try do the club think its ok with him speaking to Juve.

Rafa did speak with Juve, but it wasnt recently,it was back in January.

Rafa admitted this himself.

What did the club do about it?

Sod all.

from a lad on YNWA

So we had Broughton in my office yesterday, not on Liverpool business but a friend of mine who happens to be a Liverpool fan asked him a few things.

1. No concrete offers on the table at the moment for a takeover.

2. They are worried at the possiblity of Torres and Gerrard leaving. Torres hasn't said anything but his agent has asked to discuss things after the world cup....

3. Wouldn't be drawn on Rafa's future under H&G but did say that new owners will almost certainly look for a new boss.

Lastly something interesting, if a buyer is found and one of the owners wants to sell and the other doesnt agree Broughton gets the casting vote....

of course it isn't, much like its not ok for players agents to speak with other clubs while still under contract and without permission as well as our club speaking to agents of other managers with an eye towards replacing benitez even though A) benitez is still our manager and under contract and B) the other manager is under contract to his current club.

oh and we do have a history of tapping players up prior to them signing for us as well, but that can't be documented either.

it has been widely rumoured that should the ownership situation change (for the better) Mourinho would prefer to come here over RM

Rafa's given an interview to the Spanish press: claims he is staying at Liverpool and defends his record; says that Torres will talk about his future after the World Cup and he isn't sure what the outcome will be (bit worrying); and attacks Riera for 'lying' about him! On non-LFC matters, he isn't sure if Mourinho is is the right man for Madrid and defends Pellegrini; and says he would be interested in the Spanish national job in a few seasons when Del Bosque steps down.

Exactly, mascherano's head was turned as he was tapped up by barcelona last season. Every player and manager does it, to think otherwise is just plain naive. Does it make it right, of course not...but that's just how it is.

SPAIN JOB APPEALS FOR FUTURE - BENITEZ

Rafael Benitez admits it is his dream to one day coach the Spanish national team but has reiterated his immediate future lies at Liverpool.

Benitez has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, with Inter Milan the latest club to be linked to the 50-year-old, although that rumour was dismissed by the Serie A champions on Wednesday morning.

Juventus were also believed to be courting Benitez but the Turin giants are set to unveil Luigi Del Neri as their new coach this week, and the Spaniard insists he is some years away from leaving Merseyside.

"Right now I have four years left in my contract with Liverpool and I am very happy there," Benitez said in quotes reported on AS.com: noticias deportivas en la red.

"But, of course, in a few years, once [spain coach Vicente] Del Bosque ends his work, I would like to be Spain coach.

"All of the Spanish coaches would like in the future to become national team manager."

The Liverpool boss also hit back at his critics following the Reds' disappointing seventh-placed league finish and early exit from the Champions League last season.

Benitez claims he is a victim of his own success after guiding the club to glory in the Champions League, FA Cup, European Super Cup and Community Shield in his first two years in the role.

"My critics in London say that I am not a good manager but they forget many details," he said. "Liverpool has averaged 69 points in the last 12 seasons.

"We made a huge mistake, as we won four titles at the start. Then people ask you for more, when in reality in the Premier League it's assumed that at the start a coach needs time to adapt.

"(Manchester United manager Sir Alex) Ferguson took seven years to win the Premier League."

He's lost it totally, not looking forward to next season at all.

That's definitely lost in translation IMO.. I think what he probably said in Spanish was "By being so successful at the start the exception was raised very quickly..."

But you can read it depending on what side of the fence you sit regarding our manager.
