MIA 'Born Free'

MIA is cool and quite tidy too.....especially in the Galang video.

I'm not easily offended or shocked but can fully appreciate why that video has been banned/pulled. It's a bit too much to be readily show in the public domain.

I appreciate that not watching/turning over is the best form of censorship, but the video was quite intriguing to follow and then next minute, without any real sense of what is coming, you see people getting shot in the head and blown up!

you didn't get a sense of what was coming?

Actually to be fair if I'd never seen Peter Watkins' Punishment Park I probably wouldn't have realised where it was going.

edit: completely agree regarding Galang, I really have to get into MIA more, I only really know the big songs. Even then I prefer the Diplo remix of Paper planes to the original... actually I prefer that African cover.

a raw version of the song, which was manipulated for the video (seems like the song is promoting the short film more than the other way around). I like the song in it's original version, but the mix is a bit crap.

Too graphic for a music video but way to go to stir up publicity. Top marks.

Damn right, 500k views yesterday on the vimeo site alone! Must have taken twitter by storm..

I thought the mix was bollocks to be fair, great vid though. Was it me or was the analogy meant to be:

Ginger lads in vid = Palestinians?

Just Arabs I reckon. No need to be specific, just Arabs in general.

I thought it was even less specific, I thought it was a general anti-authoritarian and anti-prejudice. It could easily be the Kosovans or the Jews or any victims of genocide and ethnic cleansing.

I thought the fact that the oppressors were wearing the stars and stripes made it a more direct attack on the current situation with arabs, but it stands as a general point anyway.
