Name me another formation including Lucas and Mascherano protecting the back 4 whilst still having an edge in Attack.

 

Thinking about it now, swap Mascherano and Aquilani, enabling Aquilani to go foward and the other two sitting deep protecting the flanks whenever the full backs attack.

You don't need both Lucas and Mascherano protecting the back four at home to the team at the bottom of the table. Pompey would fucking love us to play that. I know we're shit out wide, but bar Johnson there would be no width whatsoever. They'd just flood the midfield, keep a man on Gerrard all game, and force us out wide, and they'd nick it 1-0.

Fullbacks attacks means we throw more bodies foward leading them to focusing on the flanks rather than the middle thus allowing Gerrard and Aquilani more space down the middle.

 

Mascherano can also help in attack with his pace whilst Lucas will keep things simple in the back.

 

Only fear we have is on the counter when we do throw bodies forward.

 

In any case the above formation is great as I cant see Rafa dropping Lucas unless he changes his philosophy on football.

We shouldn't play Lucas anyway. I hope we pick up the pace tonight and although I pity pompy at the moment, i hope we destroy them. If we bang in a few goals then it will really help confidence and start a good chain reaction.

We're shit but we're still favourites and will still be a majorupset if we get beat, I've seen some dire fucking performance this season, home and away, but I can't possibly bring myself to expect anything less than a comfortable win at home to the team at the foot of the table. 2-0, a clean sheet and a goal for nando will do nicely, come on red men.

I agree with this EPL match prediction blog which goes for a low-scoring win for us. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a draw as we won't bother trying to attack to kill things off so Portsmouth will be in with a shout for the whole game.

This whole thread sums up our season. We should be talking about twatting Pompey to give us an outside chance of the title or cementing a CL berth for next season. Instead most of us are worried that we might struggle to beat them. I wished the manager and players would read this to see the level they have brought us down too.

I am not confident at all... I'd suspect another fucking embarrassingly shit display from us.

Well that's a given. We can be playing a pub team and we'd still look worse than the opposition. But that doesn't mean we won't scrape a win. I think we'll win 1-0 or 2-0, but the football will bore viewers to death.
