He drove the Bolton players mad, especially in the first half. In the second he didn't need to because they had given up trying to get anything from him. Most of their "attacks" stopped where he was. He absolutely controlled and dominated the midfield today.

Haters will keep on hating....

Unfortunately that is too true. If they don't hate then they still don't give the praise or credit when its due.

I compared him to Darren Fletcher at the start of last season. Both players suffered a lot of abuse in their early career only to prove a lot of people wrong due to significant improvement. But I think i've given Lucas a disservice. He is a much better player than Fletcher.

I listened to the interview he did for Radio Merseyside last night. He seems very happy to have a place in the team and just to get on with what he's being asked to do. He wouldn't be drawn when asked if he was now one of the definitive names on the ream sheet.

Which is good. He's not getting carried away with his performances and keeping his feet firmly planted on the ground.

Hopefully he can keep this level or performance up.

He beat Kevin Davies in the air several times yesterday. I don't ever remember a game - even with Mascherano or Hamann - where our centre halves had so little to do because EVERYTHING was cleaned up before they were needed. Unbelievable performance from him. Good to see him getting the credit he deserves from Lee Dixon last night too.

The improvement in his play has quite simply amazed me, from thinking he was average to poor to thinking now he is absolute quality is quite simply brilliant.

He seems like a proper grounded fella and top pro to boot.

Well in lucas lad, well in.

Lucas - he's better than Busquets.

Honestly though, couldn't take my eyes off him the whole match. He was judge and jury in midfield today.

Eloquent and accurate.

At no point did Bolton have options that were not closed off. Kevin Davies had his least effective afternoon in ages, because he wasn't allowed to play. Lucas snapped into tackles and played clean, simple, effective passes, like it was the easiest thing in the world.

Mind you, I had to laugh when Lee Dixon called him his Man of the Match on MOTD last night, because all the great work that Lucas does rarely makes it to the highlights - and yesterday, there were a LOT of highlights, courtesy of Suarez, Downing, Adam, etc. Anyone who didn't see the whole game must have thought that Dixon had been on the sauce or something: anyone who did see the whole game would've known exactly what he meant.
